Welcome Back!!
It has been an extremely positive and welcome return to school that students are already making breakthroughs in their learning! Students have entered their classrooms with a positive, respectful attitude allowing everyone to feel connected and valued. Every teacher has been impressed with the way students have approached the new year, we are excited and determined to keep the momentum going forward. Please always feel welcome to make contact with me or your child’s teacher to discuss their learning, we are eager to work in partnership with you to support your child’s development.
Information regarding Seesaw will come home with your child. This is an opportunity for you to be informed of the different opportunities your child is accessing at school. This platform can also be used for your teacher to communicate with you. Throughout the year a portfolio of photos, messages, videos and work will be created. As your child moves through the grades the portfolio from previous years will be saved and stored for you on your account. You will then have these to reflect on whenever you choose to at any time into the future. If you have any questions about accessing or using Seesaw please do not hesitate to ask.
We always knew that beautiful weather would arrive once school returned. Please ensure your child has their school hat at school to help ensure that they are sunsafe.
The School Association is made up of all parents, staff and community members of the school. The School Association works together for the benefit of the entire school.

The meeting will be held at 7.00pm in the school Library. If you are unable to attend but have a topic for consideration, or issues with this or other bus routes, please let one of your elected committee members know so we can discuss on your behalf. Your elected committee members are:
Peter Brown (Principal), Kathryn Dixon (Chairperson), Pip Sadler (Vice Chairperson), Mandy McNamara (Secretary), Teresa Regan (Treasurer), Pippa Mills, Maire Maccana, Kristy Russell, Georgette Moore, Merian Ellis and Kearah Baker.
As part of our student leadership opportunities, Boat Harbour Primary School is offering an opportunity for Grade 5 students, SRC Executive members, Library Monitors, House Leaders and Grade 6 students who are unable to attend the Grade 6 trip to Canberra next month to attend the GRIP Student Leadership Conference in Burnie next Wednesday, 19th February, 2020.
This workshop is being run by GRIP Leadership and will focus on the skills of a leader, positive impact on school life, goal setting, public speaking and balancing responsibilities. Students will also be able to meet and network with student leaders from other schools. We expect this to be a very valuable and positive experience for our students.
To ensure students arrive at the Burnie Town Hall on time, students will need to be at school ready to leave by 8.10am. We will return to school at 2.55pm. Full school uniform and a packed snack, lunch and drink will be required on the day.
Notes were sent home yesterday to these students, and permission forms are to be returned to school by tomorrow, Friday, 14th February, 2020.
Little Learners will begin on Monday, 17th February. Welcoming new and familiar faces. Please bring along a snack, drink and sunsafe hat. We look forward to seeing you there.
Physical Education this year will be held on Monday and Friday. To enable the children to fully participate in the wide range of activities, it would be highly beneficial for them to have shoes that enable them to run safely and either shorts or tracksuit trousers to allow ease and comfort of movement. In addition, if your child is unable to participate at any stage, could they bring a brief note reflecting this.

The BNA Saturday School roster commences on Saturday 21st March.

The BHPS Athletics Carnival will take place, weather permitting, on Friday 28th February. In the event of poor weather it will be postponed until the 13th March. Children will need to have appropriate clothing for hot and cold weather including a sun hat and plenty of water to drink. Parents and friends are welcome to come and join us and help cheer house teams in some friendly competition, starting at 9.30 am on the school grounds.
Students will be sitting with their own team. Coolongatta – blue, Illawarra – red, Imbru – yellow. If children could wear a top or coloured ribbon of their team, this would assist with marshalling, other children identifying their own team members and making the recording of results much easier.
As this is NOT a school day for Kinder students, parents are most welcome to bring their child to join in some events for Kinder, but will need to stay and supervise their own child.

Children who are unwell should be at home with someone who can care for them. Sometimes it may be necessary for children to be collected from school if they become sick or injured. For this reason, it is important that the office has up-to-date details of where to contact parents or designated emergency contacts if parents are not available. Should there be changes through the year, it is important that you let us know.
It is important for parents to know when children can return to school should they become infected with any of the below.
Headlice - Children can return to school as soon as they have been treated. Treatments can be brought at your local pharmacy.
Vomiting/Diarrhoea - It is extremely important that children who have been ill with vomiting or diarrhoea remain off school while symptomatic and for 24 hours after their last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea.
Slapped Cheek/Fifth Disease - Fifth disease is no longer infectious once the rash appears. If you suspect your child may have Fifth disease we ask that you please keep them away from school. Once the rash has come out they are no longer contagious and can return to school.
School Sores/Impetigo - Children diagnosed with impetigo should remain out of school until the sores have stopped blistering or crusting, or until 24 hours after starting appropriate antibiotic treatment.
Chickenpox - Children with chickenpox school be excluded from school until scabs are dry; this is usually five to seven days after the appearance of the rash. Children with spots that are crusted and dried can safely attend school.
Whooping Cough/Pertussis - Children can spread the infection to others through coughing, sneezing and poor hand hygiene. Children with Pertussis should be excluded from school for five days after starting antibiotic treatment.
Scarlet Fever - Children can return to school when they are well and have finished one full day of antibiotic treatment.

Staff are available for meetings or discussions with parents at varying times throughout the week. Please contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.
A limited number of parking spaces are currently available in our car park for parents and visitors to our school to access. Please be mindful of where you park when visiting or collecting children - parking in the marked spaces on the southern end of the car park nearest the road is encouraged.
We ask that parents and community members avoid:
- parking behind cars parked outside the hall as they may need to leave before you do
- parking in front of the local shop – this hinders their right to trade
- parking in school bus bays, as indicated by black and white stripes on kerbing
- parking over the pedestrian crossing which is used by students
Parking on Dobsons Lane is strongly discouraged as this blocks access by local residents to their homes, and firefighters to the fire station in the event of an emergency. This may also endanger students should they be walking on the road.
When there are large crowds expected, additional parking spaces will be provided on the school oval.
There is a marked disability parking space out the front of the school office. Please ensure this area is not blocked and can be easily accessed at all times.
Registration To Work With Vulnerable People (RWVP)
All adults working in the school are now required by law to have Working with Vulnerable People (RWVP) registration unless they will be working or volunteering with children for 7 days or less per calendar year. Visitors, volunteers, staff and tradespeople must present this card at the front office on arrival.
How to apply for Registration:
There are two steps to applying. The first step is an online application form; the second step is to be completed at a Service Tasmania shop.
STEP 1 – Fill in online application form
Log on to Consumer, Building and Occupational Services site, as below, and fill in the online application form:
If you don’t have access to the internet, please call 1300 13 55 13 for assistance.
Please ensure that the details you provide to us are exactly the same as the details on your identity documents. If you make a mistake, please re-do the form to avoid problems at the next step – establishing your proof of identity.
Once you have submitted the form, you will receive an application receipt. This receipt is important for the next step. If you cannot print the receipt for any reason, write down the application ‘reference number’. Payment can be made online by credit card or at Service Tasmania (see step 2 below).
STEP 2 – Present your Proof of Identity at Service Tasmania
Go to a Service Tasmania shop with your:
- application receipt or reference number
- proof of identity (see below)
- payment if you haven’t already paid online
PLEASE NOTE: To prove your identity, you must appear in person at Service Tasmania with all three of these items for your application to proceed.
