Great start to Term 2
We’ve had a busy and productive start to Term 2. Students returned from the holidays settled, focused, and ready for a big term of learning and growth. Staff are currently busy gathering evidence of student learning in preparation for reports and parent–teacher discussions later this term.
Congratulations Oliver & Sam
Big congratulations to Oliver Elphinstone and Sam Aitken who represented the North West at the State Athletics Carnival last week. Sam ran in the 400m and managed to place 6th in the state for his age and Ollie's shot put result was a throw of well over 6m, which is an excellent effort ! We are very proud of your efforts in your events. Well done boys!
Well Done Abbey
Abbey recently returned from Orlando, Florida, where she competed on the international stage with the Wynyard Wildcats Cheerleaders. The team of 12 girls, aged between 6 and 12, impressed the judges—and even surprised themselves by taking out the top prize in the Youth Novice division at Nfinity’s FINALS cheerleading competition, an international event that draws teams from around the world. An incredible achievement—well done, Abbey! What an unforgettable experience!
Ditto visits Boat Harbour Primary
This week, our Early Childhood classes participated in Bravehearts’ Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Program—a fun, engaging, and trusted personal safety education session. Designed for children in the early years through to lower primary, the program is curriculum-aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework and the Australian Curriculum. Through songs, storytelling, and interactive activities, students learned important messages about personal safety, including how to recognise warning signs, trust their feelings, and seek help when needed.
Biggest Morning Tea
Thank you to everyone who supported the SRC in hosting the Biggest Morning Tea. Between the SRC event and the staff morning tea held earlier in the week, over $1,000 was raised for the Cancer Council. This is a fantastic effort and a wonderful contribution to such an important cause.

Farm Land Advisory Group
We are looking to draw upon the expertise and experience within our school community to help shape the future of our school farm land. By forming a group of individuals who can provide valuable advice, guidance, and input, we hope to explore a range of possibilities that support student learning, community engagement, and long-term sustainability. If you’re available, please come along on Monday evening and join the conversation.
Cross Country
We are looking forward to holding our first assembly for Term 2 in week 4 on Thursday 22nd May. The whole school assembly will start at 9.10. As soon as assembly finishes, we will head out to start the Grade 6 Cross Country. Students in Kinder – Grade 2 will run one lap approx. 1km and students in grade 3-6 will run two laps, approx. 2km.
We are lucky enough to have Coffee Van ‘Choo Chew Brew’ on site during the Cross Country for parents and students to purchase drinks and snacks from.
The Cross Country is encouraged for all, with participation a key priority. Students are welcome to run, jog, walk, or a combination of each. Like all school-based activities, students are encouraged to try their best. Walking and completing the course can be fun and still earn points for their House. We are having a practice run/walk on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th, so please ensure your child has a spare pair of clothes, shoes and socks for this and on the day.

In 6W we are busy embracing all of the wonderful leadership opportunities that Grade 6 brings! Whether or not we are an elected SRC member or house captain, we know that we all have an important job as a leader of our school. We are learning what it means to be responsible and set a good example for others. It's not always easy, but it's definitely rewarding. We are discovering new skills, like public speaking, teamwork, and problem-solving, which will help us in the future.
Our SRC members have been busy attending meetings, organising events and fundraisers and creating rosters for different purposes. We take turns running the sports shed at recess and lunchtime and many students give up their playtime to work in the canteen, help in the library and just offer a helping hand where needed!
Last week our class visited Prep/1 BE and helped them create posters showing their knowledge about bees. We taught them skills such as using computers to find and print images, and how to do fancy writing to make cool headings. Not only do we love helping the younger students, but it helps us to reinforce our own skills and develop these by teaching others.

In 6S, students engaged in a meaningful ANZAC Day activity to explore the significance of this important day that fell in the school holidays. They began by watching a video that presented various perspectives on what ANZAC Day means to different people and how it is commemorated. Following the video, students participated in a thoughtful discussion about their own views and feelings regarding ANZAC Day. To express their reflections, each student wrote a short piece about what ANZAC Day means to them. Here are some of their responses.

In 5L and 5E our focus for HASS at the beginning of Term 2 has been the understanding the 3 levels of Government, Democracy and the current Election. We have discussed the word democracy and how it affects us and cooked and eaten Democracy Sausages. We have read the book If I Was Prime Minister by Beck and Robin Feiner and discussed the things we would do if we were Prime Minister. We have created our own political parties in the Menimbah electorate, created election posters, presented our parties policies in a speech and voted.

Exciting new program for the North and North West Coast, supported through the Tasmanian Community Fund to provide volunteers in our schools.
This program has been effectively changing lives for over 25 years, operating across Australia.
EdConnect source, train, and support volunteers to go into the school setting, under the supervision of a teacher, with the focus on literacy and numeracy in Tasmania.
EdConnect offer support in partnership with the school so the volunteer can be effective and enhance the students learning and well-being, which is achieved through our Learning Support Program. Volunteers commit to 1 hour per week during School Terms, supporting the same teacher and classroom each week.
Mentoring is another component of EdConnect but is not offered in Tasmania at this stage.
Our aspiration for Tasmania is to have 20 schools partnering with EdConnect over the next 5 years. This will equate to 176 volunteers supporting 6552 Children.
Our current partnership schools are:
Cooee Primary
East Ulverstone Primary
Hillcrest Primary
Devonport High.
