Your Thanks is Enough
To our student families,
Thank you so much for being a part of another wonderful year at Boat Harbour Primary School. It has been an honour to be a part of your child’s/children’s learning and we wish you all a very relaxing Christmas holiday period together.
As we come into the Christmas break we as staff are very lucky to often receive your very heartfelt messages of thanks and at times - Christmas gifts.
We would like to remind all our families that your thanks alone is enough and that no gifts are necessary. We have loved watching your child grow and learn throughout the year- and that in itself is our thanks.
If gift giving is something you feel strongly about, then we would greatly appreciate very small gifts only. A picture drawn or a card written by your child, or a homemade item are often our most treasured gifts. As Department for Education, Children and Young People employees it is inappropriate that we accept substantial tokens of appreciation.
We thank you again for a lovely year and have enjoyed working with you and your child/children.
Regards,
Peter

So proud!
Recently Harry Gatenby travelled to Brisbane, representing Tasmania while competing against the best runners from across Australia. Harry ran in the 1500m and 800m, and in an outstanding effort, placed in the top 10 in both his races! We are all so very proud of you Harry, your work ethic, commitment and determination make you a fantastic role model, well done.
On Friday the 18th of November the Grade 3/4s travelled to Table Cape Primary School to participate in the 3/4 Sports Expo. We got to try 4 out of the 5 sports they had on offer. The sports included soccer, table tennis, target golf, little athletics and basketball. We really enjoyed having a go at some different sports and trying something new. Here are our highlights:
I liked the running in Little Athletics – Layla
I had fun because I got to try lots of sports – Brandon
I liked table tennis because we got to hit balloons – Bronte
I liked shooting hoops in basketball – Ellie
Table tennis with the balloons over the net was fun – Tommi
I loved soccer - Ella
Sinking and Floating
In Kinder we have been exploring the concept of Sinking and Floating and learning about what affects an object’s buoyancy. This was explored first through a small experiment where we tested to see if an orange floats with its peel on, and then tested the orange with its peel off. We discovered that even though an orange is lighter without its peel, it is the peel that helps it to float because of the small pockets of air all over it. This was a great experiment to help explain some of the reason behind why very large and heavy object can float.
The students experimented with objects from their environment and made predictions about whether they thought the object would sink or float. The class then had a challenge to each make a boat that would float from materials of their choice. They did a wonderful job at explaining why they chose their particular materials and also how this would affect their boat’s buoyancy.
During Term 4 Prep/1S have had a focus on learning about money. We have looked at the features of Australian coins and watched a clip about how coins are made. It was fun playing games to help us practise recognising the coins. We have also been learning about the value of the coins and that if a coin is bigger than others it might not always mean it is worth more. We enjoyed looking at money from different countries and old Australian money and comparing it to the coins we use in Australia.
Christmas celebrations have begun in Prep-1 C. We have been busy creating some wonderful Christmas artwork and writing. We have created beautiful Christmas trees using different coloured cardboard. We ripped the cardboard into different lengths and placed them into order from longest to shortest to create the trees. We also did some directed drawing to create our very own Grinch pictures. We listened to the instructions carefully to follow along and used, sharpies, crayons and dye to make these bright and colourful.
