Father’s Day
It was wonderful to celebrate Father’s Day with so many people last Friday. As a school community we recognise that significant adults in children’s lives are not always Dads or Mums but can be Uncles, Aunties, Grandparents or family friends – it was simply fantastic to have an array of people join us for breakfast and celebrate our students and how important they are in our lives. Students absolutely loved sharing their classroom and school with their Dads or whoever they brought along, showcasing the strength within our school community. Thank you to everyone that was willing and able to make the effort to be with us, it made many of our students extremely happy. We are so very grateful to have such a connected and positive school community, it makes our future exciting and I look forward to working in partnership with you to support every student across our school moving forward.
Art Exhibition
The annual Boat Harbour Primary School Art Exhibition will be held next week, showcasing the art skills of every student across our school. We are so very fortunate to be surrounded with staff that continue to foster a proud history in the Arts at our school, challenging themselves and students to be creative and access a variety of mediums.
The Art Exhibition will be held in week 9 Term 3, starting on Monday, 13th September and concluding on Sunday, 19th September. Parents are welcome to visit and explore the art extravaganza during the week and on the Sunday between 10.00am - 12.00pm. We request that when you visit that you check in with the Check in TAS App and follow COVID hygiene practices.
On Thursday, 16th September at 12:15pm after the school cross country, the official opening of the Exhibition will be held in the School Hall. This will be an opportunity to formally celebrate the creativity of each of our students, we hope you can join us!
Following the opening of the Art Exhibition, sausages will be cooking on the BBQ for lunch - $2.00 each, cash only, everyone welcome.
The Arts and PE
This week at our School Association meeting we discussed the challenge of providing a balanced teaching program, given that the curriculum is extremely busy. Boat Harbour Primary School has a proud history connected to the Arts. This is something we continue to take great pride in, fostering opportunities for students to access different art mediums regularly in every class. I believe the Arts enable students to become creative and confident learners, promoting an environment where students can express themselves and learn to take controlled risks. It is also a Department of Education expectation that children in primary schools participate in a minimum of 200 minutes of physical activity each week. To achieve this students access Daily PE which is an excellent way to regulate students, improve fine and gross motor skills, improve fitness and have fun. Students also participate in 45 minute focussed PE lessons each week. While being active and healthy is important, students accessing this time is not to the detriment of the Arts, as they remain a key priority across the school.
End of day student pick-up
Collecting students at the end of the day is a very busy time. The new collection process allowing parents to drive to the collection gate is helping students to be collected quickly and safely. There is often a very long line of traffic heading from the collection point, all the way along the carpark to the front entrance of the school driveway. The key to making this process successful is a constant flow of traffic. To enable this we are requesting that you do not park in these spaces, and as soon as you have your child/ren you buckle them in safely and move on so that traffic can continue to flow. It is wonderful to see parents and children catching up during collection times, however we request that you please park in the carpark and walk to the collection point to achieve this. Thank you for your help and understanding.
Bunnings Donation
Recently Bunning donated a 6 burner BBQ to our school. This is very generous of them and something that we are very grateful for. We had the opportunity to use the BBQ for the first time at the Father’s Day breakfast and it worked an absolute treat! Thank you Bunnings for your generosity, it is appreciated by many.

Kindergarten
Kindergarten students know that they can communicate their ideas and understandings through ‘reading’ their drawings with their voice. Some children are making books about things which interest them, and then reading their pictures aloud to make meaning. Sometimes shapes or symbols are added to represent text, and sometimes strings of letters are added, all of which are read aloud to make meaning.
When Kinder students make books they are sharing their ideas, as well as showing their growing understanding of writing, and reading.

Parents who have been in the school over recent months may have seen works progressing in the garden area opposite Prep classrooms, by the path down to the playground. Our Education Facility Attendants, Lois Hutchison and Peter Debono have cleared what was an empty space after a big water tank was removed. This has been edged and filled with grey metal. A rock path has been added, along with a timber frame over the top, which wisteria will in time grow up and around to create a peaceful arbour in which to to sit.
Thanks to our Student Representative Council who provided funds to help create Cheryl's Garden, in memory our our previous Principal, Cheryl Kingston, who passed away in 2018. A plaque in her memory is attached to the seat which has now been installed. Mrs Kingston's favourite colour has been acknowledged through the planting of a red camellia.
Our thanks too to John Henshaw, who constructed a book box which is now attached to the wall. We are seeking donations of secondhand children's books to be able to leave in the box so that children can choose a book to read while they sit on the seat.
