Calm, settled classrooms
I am continually impressed by the positive behaviour, attitude and effort across our wonderful school. In every class I see students engaged in their learning, building collaborative skills and supporting each other. This week we are focussing on being respectful, as a whole school we discussed together what this looks like, what it sounds like and how we will know if we are achieving it. Please take the time to talk with your child(ren) about respect, how it’s achieved and why it is important in our lives.
Maths Relay
All of our Grade 3 – 6 students participated in maths relays this week. This was an opportunity for students to work in teams to problem solve, working together to find the answers to a variety of challenges of varying difficulty. It was a great way to have fun while doing maths and to see students being persistent to achieve a common goal. Well done everyone for trying your best!
Head lice
Head lice continues to be a significant inconvenience across the school. Please be vigilant in checking your family and treating them as necessary. If we all do this we can stop head lice spreading! Thank you everyone for doing your bit to be a part of the solution.
Assembly
Our next assembly will be held next week on Thursday, 19th August at 11:00am for K – 2 students, and 11:50am for our Grade 3 – 6 students. We hope to see as many of you as possible to celebrate student achievement and learning. Please make sure you check in whenever you visit the school including assemblies, and follow all normal COVID hygiene practices.

Students in 3-4 Eiszele have been reading the novel “Wonder”.
It tells the story of a boy with facial differences who enters school for the first time. The book has so many messages of kindness and acceptance of others.
We chose our favourite messages from the book and made posters.
Indy- “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.”
Charlotte - “No act of kindness, no matter how small is ever wasted.”
Chaz- “Kind words don’t cost much, yet they accomplish much”
Sam – “You can always give someone something – even if it only kindness”
Science investigations about Heating and Cooling
Grade 3-4 Ellis and Wilson have been investigating and understanding that a change of state between a solid and a liquid can be caused by adding or removing heat.
We have conducted experiments to find out which solids cool and melt the fastest out of honey, detergent, milk, and water. We all made predictions and were surprised by the results. We concluded that substances containing the most ingredients froze and melted the quickest.
3-4T
In 3-4 Turner, we put ourselves to the test with an indoor 'Race Around the World' with the help of Mrs Eiszele before she takes her baby break. The students had to work together in teams of three to complete ten challenges around the room. Students started off with an entry ticket challenge and then were able to take it in turns to complete the rest of the course. The students showed excellent resilience when things got tricky and encouraged each other to keep going. Overall, we had a lot of fun in the process. Good luck in the coming weeks Mrs Eiszele.
4-5KB
In Grade 4-5, we are learning about the Solar System. We are understanding how the universe was formed, what gravity is and how much we would weigh on each planet!
We are also making our own solar system from Papier Mache.
On Thursday, 5th August, all students from 5-6 G, 5-6 N and the Grade 5 students from Mrs McDonald’s class participated in the annual NWPSSA Grade 5-6 Sports Day. Sports included; basketball, soccer, King of the Court (volleyball) and tennis. Students were treated to skill sessions on the day as well as several games against teams from other schools from along the North West Coast. All Boat Harbour students are to be commended on their excellent behaviour and display of sportsmanship. A big thank-you also to all the helpers who organised the teams on the day.

We have had a change of School Banking Co-ordinator. Our school office clerk, Anita Groenewege, will take over the processing of bank deposits each Tuesday from now on. Please ensure all deposit books are at the school office by 10.30am for processing. These will be returned to students at the end of the day to take home.
Our thanks and appreciation to parent, Teresa Regan, who has willingly carried out this role over the last few years. She is unable to continue in this position due to changes implemented by the Commonwealth Bank.
On Wednesday, 2nd June students from Grades 3-6 participated in the North West Cross Country Carnival at Ulverstone. Well done to everyone who ran on the day and give it their all. BHPS students did an amazing job. Congratulations to the following students:

The new school hoodies are proving to be popular with students, and very cosy for this wintry weather! However, we still have stock of the polar fleece jackets, mainly in larger sizes, which we are keen to sell off. The price for jackets in sizes 10 to L has been reduced to $15. They are very warm, and you may wish to purchase some at this special price for spares when the washing won't dry quickly! These can be ordered on Qkr! (pricing has been updated for all sizes) or through the school office.
It was agreed at the School Association meeting last week that for younger students the polar fleece jackets may be easier to manage than the school hoodies, and that sizes 4-8 will again be available for purchase. The cost has gone up slightly - these will be available for $37 each. Please contact the school office by Monday, 16th August if you wish to order any of these sizes, as an order is going to be placed shortly for these.
