Athletics
33 students represented Boat Harbour Primary School at the North West State Schools Athletics Carnival in Penguin last week. Our students competed against the best runners in the North West in both sprints and long distance events. I could not have been more proud of the determination and sportsmanship demonstrated by every student representing our school, with maximum effort always on display. The first event was the 800m, with Harry Gatenby winning this event convincingly making him the North West Champion – a fantastic achievement Harry! Throughout the carnival students participated in heats for events with many students making the semi-finals. Some students had excellent results in these events qualifying them for the finals, which were held in Penguin at a Twilight Carnival on Tuesday this week. Congratulations to Leo Taylor, Jake Harris, Bryce McNab, Indi Winter and William Elphinstone for making the finals for your events. Congratulations to Jake Harris for coming third in the 200m and just missing a place in the 100m.
Reading
It was fantastic to see so many students recognised for achieving their latest reading rules levels in our morning meeting this week. These students are presented with certificates and it was sensational to see the stage full with students being recognised for their efforts. Students reading at home with family is an excellent way for parents to foster a love of reading with their child, while also supporting their development and consolidating their learning. Keep up the great work everyone!
Assemblies
On Tuesday 30th March we will be holding our end of Term assemblies. The Primary (Grade 3 – 6) assembly will be held at 11:15am and the Early Childhood (Kinder – Grade 2) assembly will be held at 1:30pm. Due to COVID-19 social distancing requirements we request that each child has only one parent or friend attend. Thank you in advance for your understanding, we look forward to celebrating student learning and achievement with you at the assemblies.
Easter
It has been a tradition at Boat Harbour Primary School for many years for the Rocky Cape Church to share with our students the Easter Story. We have an important role in educating our children about world religions and cultural customs.
The goal of this service is to introduce students to the story and help them understand the influence it has had on history, literature, art and music.
If you would like your child not to participate in this please contact their teacher, the school office or myself. Students that do not participate in the Easter Service will be supervised in another area of the school by teachers continuing their learning.

Who am I?
Mrs Baker, Miss Allen and Mrs Little are super proud of how our Kindergarten students have settled into their new learning environment, positively taking on new routines and expectations.
We have been focusing on creating a sense of belonging for each child. When a child has a sense of belonging they are more confident, feel more secure, show more creativity and are more likely to explore the world of learning.
As a connection to our whole school inquiry approach, the Kinders have taken on a journey of inquiry to explore their own identity. The big question for our identity inquiry was ‘Who am I?’
Self-Portraits
‘Who are you?’
We began the year by having each child draw their very own, first self-portrait! A self-portrait can reveal many things. It shows the development of a child’s fine motor skills, as well as an insight into their own self-concept.
The Child’s Voice:
“My name’s Seth. I like lego.” Seth
“Maddie. I like cute stuff like flamingos.” Maddie
“This is me being a DJ. I look cool and handsome.” Braxyn
Making Connections
‘What makes you, you?’
One way we answered this was by using a ‘Hexagon Thinking Tool’. The children were invited to select from a range of photos showing people, places and events which may be important to them or have an impact on their lives. The children chose and arranged the hexagons, discussing their relevance and particular memories. This task gave us an insight into their lives, and allowed them to make connections with their new Kinder friends.
The Child’s Voice:
“I’ve had a strawberry ice-cream with chocolate on top!” Aoife
“I have a cat and dog at home that I like to sleep with.” Will
“I go to the skatepark, and my mum had a holiday.” Lylah-Rose
“I had a birthday when I was turning 4!” Sahara
“I pick flowers for Mum and Dad.” Breah
“I have lots of family run arounds playing chasings.” Max
Other questions we explored were:
“What makes you special?”
“What would you like to do when you grow up?”
“Is there anything you would like us to know about you?
Although the weather wasn't ideal for our athletics carnival, that didnt seem to dampen the children's enthusiasm. Thank you to those family members that assisted with various tasks or provided the enthusiastic cheers from the bank. Your support certainly adds to the positive atmosphere of the day. On the last day of term Wednesday 31st March, we will be holding an Easter Parade. Students from Kinder to Grade 2 will be sending home invitations to parents/carers inviting you to join us for a morning of fun and craft. The morning will be spent in your child’s classroom helping create an Easter bonnet prior to the parade.
Grade 3 to 6 students are invited to make an Easter Bonnet at home and participate in the parade.
The SRC would also like to invite students to come to school out of uniform that day with an Easter theme for a gold coin donation.
The bonnets and students wishing to display their outfit will be on parade after recess at approximately 11:15am. More information will be sent home next week.
The Parents & Friends Fundraising Group has organised to host another Bunnings BBQ Sausage Sizzle on Saturday, 10th April.
To make the day successful, we need lots of volunteers. If you or a family member can volunteer some of your time on this day, that would be greatly appreciated. There will be 3 shifts during the day, and we need 4 people per shift, as below:
Includes Set up 8.00am – 11.00am
11.00am – 1.30pm
Includes Pack up 1.30pm – 4.00pm
If you are unable to help on the day but would still like to contribute to what will be our biggest fundraiser for the year, a donation would be most welcomed and will go a long way to help make the day a success. Donations can be made via the Qkr! app, or at the office.
Please contact Pip Sadler on 0409 050 033 or contact the office on 6445 1187 if you are interested in volunteering on the day and to reserve a timeslot.
The fundraising group is holding an Easter Raffle and are seeking your support to put together some Easter baskets as prizes. We'd really appreciate it if you would be able to donate an Easter themed item - eggs, bunnies, toys or craft. A collection box is at the office for donations, which need to be in by Friday, 19th March.
Raffle ticket books will be sent home next week. You could win one of four Easter hampers filled with treats, or even one of our smaller Easter prizes! Tickets are $1.00 each.
All raffle books/money to be returned to school by Friday, 26th March.
The raffle will be drawn on Monday, 29th March.
