Kinder

                                   Who am I?
Mrs Baker, Miss Allen and Mrs Little are super proud of how our Kindergarten students have settled into their new learning environment, positively taking on new routines and expectations.
We have been focusing on creating a sense of belonging for each child. When a child has a sense of belonging they are more confident, feel more secure, show more creativity and are more likely to explore the world of learning.
As a connection to our whole school inquiry approach, the Kinders have taken on a journey of inquiry to explore their own identity. The big question for our identity inquiry was  ‘Who am I?’

Self-Portraits

‘Who are you?’
We began the year by having each child draw their very own, first self-portrait! A self-portrait can reveal many things. It shows the development of a child’s fine motor skills, as well as an insight into their own self-concept.

The Child’s Voice:
“My name’s Seth. I like lego.” Seth
“Maddie. I like cute stuff like flamingos.” Maddie
“This is me being a DJ. I look cool and handsome.” Braxyn

Making Connections

‘What makes you, you?’
One way we answered this was by using a ‘Hexagon Thinking Tool’. The children were invited to select from a range of photos showing people, places and events which may be important to them or have an impact on their lives. The children chose and arranged the hexagons, discussing their relevance and particular memories. This task gave us an insight into their lives, and allowed them to make connections with their new Kinder friends.

The Child’s Voice:
“I’ve had a strawberry ice-cream with chocolate on top!” Aoife
“I have a cat and dog at home that I like to sleep with.” Will
“I go to the skatepark, and my mum had a holiday.” Lylah-Rose
“I had a birthday when I was turning 4!” Sahara
“I pick flowers for Mum and Dad.” Breah
“I have lots of family run arounds playing chasings.” Max

Other questions we explored were:
“What makes you special?”
“What would you like to do when you grow up?”
“Is there anything you would like us to know about you?
