School Opening Times
A reminder to everyone that the school opening times for students is 8:30am. Before this time is important meeting scheduled for teachers, as well as planning and preparation time for learning. This means that teachers are not always in their classrooms before this time, and as a result their duty of care for students does not start until after 8:30am.
To ensure your child’s safety please do not drop them at school until this time.
Whole school Assembly
Next Thursday, 4th July, we will be holding a whole school assembly at 9:15am to celebrate student learning. We hope to see you there.
Parent Teacher Meetings
It has been fantastic to have parents in our school discussing student learning with their child’s teacher this week. If you were unable to schedule a parent teacher meeting this week, please feel welcome to reach out to your child’s teacher to catch up.
Pink Day
Pink Day will be held on the last day of Term to help promote awareness of cancer and to raise money to go towards treatment and research to find a cure. The SRC are asking students to wear pink on the day and to bring along a gold coin donation. Pink cupcakes will be available to purchase for $2 and tickets for a raffle (flowers, chocolates and a surprise!!) available too.
Student Free Day
Student Free Days are important days for schools to continue to grow and improve. Two weeks ago, staff participated in a moderation day. Teachers from Yolla and Table Cape Primary School, joined us at Boat Harbour Primary to work collaboratively to moderate student evidence of learning. While this supports teachers in their understanding of assessment and the Australian Curriculum, it also ensures consistency of achievement standards across schools. Teachers justify why certain assessments have been given, share ideas about task design, and provide each other with feedback about future teaching and student needs.
We are extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated and driven staff at Boat Harbour Primary School. I feel empowered knowing that our students are in such good hands.

When the spectacular Aurora Australis lit up the Tasmanian skies, it felt like a dream. The vivid pink and green hues danced overhead, captivating everyone who was lucky enough to witness them. Inspired by nature’s pure beauty, we grabbed our chalk pastels and recreated this celestial spectacle to display in our classroom. We hope they mesmerise you just as much as the real Southern Lights!
In 5/6W we have been learning about colonisation in HASS. We have been looking at how the landscape of Sydney Cove has changed drastically since the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788. In small groups, students were given the task of creating a 3D model replica of Sydney Cove from their chosen time period. We had some groups create the landscape prior to settlement, where there were many natural features, and the land was home to the Indigenous Australians. Others chose to look at a time period between the 1800’s and 1900’s where the development of more industrialised buildings had begun, as well as roads and more modern ships and freight carriers. Some groups showed what Sydney Cove (Circular Quay) looks like now – a bustling city with skyscrapers and cruise ships!
Thylacine Poetry – Grade 5/6 EE
Thylacine Poetry – Grade 5/6 EE
This term in HASS we have been researching the importance and implications of the colonisation of Australia, following the arrival of the First Fleet from England in 1788.
We have learnt about the relationships between the Europeans and local aboriginal people including the very unusual friendship between Governor Arthur and Bennelong.
Other discussions have focussed on the life of early settlers and the impact of changes of land use and farming practises on the Australian environment. We focused on how land management included bounties on ‘pest’ species such as the Thylacine, and how this contributed to the extinction of this species.
Students wrote senses poems about Benjamin, the last known living Thylacine, who was captured and placed in the Beaumaris Zoo. Benjamin, along with many other animals in the zoo, died of exposure one cold night when the zookeeper forgot to return them to their shelter at dusk.
The SRC are holding a PINK! casual clothes day on the last day of term to raise money for cancer research.
Please send your children to school in casual (pink) clothing with a gold coin donation.
What Does the Term Nut Aware Mean?
Nut Aware Schools typically don’t place a ban on nuts, but they do encourage nut alternatives and educate their staff and students. They put an emphasis on preventing cross contamination through proper handling of food and proper hygiene, i.e., washing hands before school, washing hands during lunch, and not sharing food.
Schools that identify themselves as “Nut Aware” will usually ask for the parents of every child, whether they are allergic to nuts or not, to consider peanut and tree nut alternatives when planning individual packed lunches. The same encouragement goes for any snack eaten inside school premises. Typically, if a celebratory treat is sent to school with an intended purpose of being shared, that snack will be required to be free of peanuts or nuts, and also packaged with labeling that confirms the snack is nut free.
We do love a bit of sport here at BHPS with a School Footy team of 20+ keen players and 2 Saturday Netball teams!
Words from Netta Coach Jackie B.
Last week we defeated our week 1 adversaries 7 goals to 6, in week 1 we were a player down and they wiped the floor with us.
What a comeback and a huge measure of growth and development for the individual players as well as us as a team! WooHoo!
Words from Netball coach Crystal.
What an incredible start to the 2024 Netball Season. With the season commencing at the start of May, our team have worked very hard to build upon their skills and it shows every week. Their team work improves with every game.
School Values shine through with each player showing Responsibility for themselves and their actions, the Courage it takes to play each week, the Growth we see in each player, the Connection that is being formed between players, and the Respect they show each other, the opposing team and the umpires.
Well done to all our players and I look forward to seeing continued improvement for the remainder of the season.
Games are played at the Burnie Netball Courts every Saturday morning if anyone would like to come along and support us!
Please remember to NAME your new uniform items so we are able to return it to it's owner when lost!
