Swimming and Water Safety
Despite a mixed bag of weather conditions, students are relishing the opportunity to develop their swimming and water safety awareness currently at school. The enthusiasm and enjoyment students are showing by developing their ability in the water is a highlight, demonstrating their strong appetite to engage in different learning opportunities. Students learning to be safe around water is important, assisting in keeping themselves and others safe both now and into the future.
End of Year Assemblies
Our end of year assemblies will be held on Friday, 10th December 2021. The assemblies are an opportunity to reflect on the 2021 school year, to see our students shine, and to celebrate student achievements. Students who have excelled in each class in filling our school values – Respect, Aspiration, Courage, and Growth, will be recognised at their assemblies. There will again be four assemblies this year to allow families to attend their child’s assembly and for us to also follow COVID-19 protocols.
The times for assemblies on December 10th are as follows:
Kinder and Prep 10:00am
Grade 1-2 11:00am
Grade 3-4 5:00pm
Grade 4-5 & 5-6 6:00pm

1-2LM & 1-2ME
In Science, 1-2LM and 1-2ME have been inquiring about sound and how we hear. We have discovered there are three parts of the ear and they all work together to hear sound and send messages to the brain. We are learning vibrations are things that move back and forth fast and they send waves of energy into our ears. Hearing is how we perceive sound, and it can change depending on how fast or slow an object vibrates to make sound waves. The stronger the vibration, the louder the sound we hear.
1-2LM have enjoyed being creative with the inspiration of Pete Cromer. Students were able to use several materials to create their animals such as, paper, watercolour, oil pastels and material pieces. They look amazing!
1-2H & 1-2W
In 1-2H and 1-2W we have been working on a HASS project. Each student has designed their own town and completed a map to show the features of their town. There were some requirements we had to meet when designing our towns, including:
- It must have some natural, managed, and constructed features;
- Our map must include a key;
- Our town needs to have a health service, an emergency service, a school, houses and businesses.
We have all enjoyed this task and are the proud ‘mayors’ of our new towns!
The early childhood and primary swimming programs are well underway, with the first early childhood program (Kinder, Prep and 1-2W) finishing tomorrow. Programs for Grade 1-2H, 1-2LM and 1-2ME students will commence on Monday, 22nd November. Letters have been sent out to advise swimming times - if you are unsure of your child's swimming time, please contact the office.
Reminder to parents to please ensure all clothing is clearly named. This will help children and supervising staff to identify the correct clothing after swimming.
Swimming caps are still available for purchase from the school office for $2.00 each.
Montrose High School Band Visit
On Tuesday afternoon, 9th November, the students at Boat Harbour were treated to a concert from the Montrose Bay High School Band.
We learnt about many of the instruments in the band and we were able to get up and dance to many of their songs.
The students love the very loud rock band! Some were introduced to the music of Led Zeppelin for the first time.
At the end of the performance William was brave enough to play their drums with perfect rhythm as the high school band played along with him.
It was a great concert!!
There has been some confusion over the past week as parents have received statements for swimming/Grade 6 payments they have already made. If you have made a payment in the days around the statement issue date, please disregard, as there is often some crossover between when payments are made and when they appear in the school account for allocation. Please contact the school office if you wish to confirm a payment.
School Banking update from Commonwealth Bank
For 90 years, our School Banking program has helped children learn about money, reinforced the importance of regular savings and provided structure for parents to support their children to save.
Though the program continues to have strong support from schools, parents and teachers, recent decisions by some state and territory governments because of a review by the corporate regulator mean we are unable to continue providing programs in schools, and we have had to make a difficult decision to close our School Banking program for all government and non-government schools across the country.
Our School Banking program was established in 1931 at a time when having a bank account was not commonplace, and since then we have helped more than 15 million Australians take their first financial steps. This would not have been possible without the wonderful support we have received from schools like yours, including all the parents and volunteers, and for this we are deeply grateful. Thank you.
Even though this is a sad time, School Banking has taught so many young Australians, past and present, the value of money and we believe this should be celebrated. We have created a place for you to share your stories, fondest memories and lessons learnt through the program. To share your story and access our financial education resources, please visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
Even though the CommBank School Banking program will not be returning to your school after this year, you can continue to make deposits into your child’s Youthsaver account through online transfers or at any CommBank branch. If you need further information please phone 132 221 or visit your local CommBank branch.
