Mid-Term Assemblies
A fantastic range of learning was showcased today at our assembly. Thank you to those parents and school community members who attended. Our students love having the opportunity to reflect on their term and share their work with you. We are so fortunate to have such a connected and involved school community invested in our students learning.
Congratulations to those students who received a certificate for demonstrating our school values of Growth, Respect, Aspiration and Courage. Well done to these outstanding students, keep up the good work for the remainder of the year.
Student Free Day
Last Friday, teachers worked collaboratively to reflect on priorities and targets set in our School Improvement Plan. The Annual Review is a valuable opportunity for staff to analyse student data and determine goals for 2022. This process is focussed on improving student outcomes to ensure every learner reaches their full potential. We are in the midst of planning and preparing structures and classes for next year. This information will be included with your child’s summary report at the end of term.
Remembrance Day Service
Next Thursday, 11th November students will pause and reflect on the service men and women who have died in the line of duty. The Student Representative Council will be holding a service at 11am in front of the memorial garden outside Minimbah. As always, you are welcome to attend.
End of Year Testing
Teachers are busy currently undertaking end of year assessments. We use this assessment data to identify starting points for learning, target teaching and monitor growth. This is valuable insight to inform end of year reporting and planning for 2022. We encourage all students to participate and aspire to do their best.
Swimming
Our swimming and water safety programs will be held this term. Kinder, Prep and 1-2W students begin on 8th November, 2021. 1-2H, 1-2LM & 1-2ME students will swim for two weeks starting 22nd November, 2021. Our Grade 3-5 students begin their program on 15th November, 2021. Given the environment that we live in, surrounded by creeks, rivers, dams and coastline, it is essential that our kids learn water safety and become strong swimmers to keep themselves safe if they were ever to find themselves in a dangerous situation in and around water.

3-4E
In science the students of 3-4E have been investigating force and motion.
We have used our knowledge to help in an experiment to make a car out of cardboard and plastic bottles. We had to see how far we could get it to move using a non-contact force.
In partners we used our knowledge of friction (the more friction the more grip there is) and a non-contact force of air power coming out of a balloon.
The objective was to make the car, test it, and then make some tweaks to see if it would travel further.
We had some success but overall, we came to the conclusion that our wheels needed to be stronger and exactly round. Also, the design made it difficult to blow up the balloon, so we could try and change this next time.
We measured the distance they travelled in cm and recorded this data in a chart.
We learnt lots of information about contact and non-contact motion. We also looked at gravity and friction.
Charlotte Weeks 3-4
Students in 3-4 EM have been working on writing books this term. Firstly, they made beautiful dioramas and then used them as an inspiration for a narrative story. Last week they completed their books and had fun reading them to Prep-1 students.
3-4T
In 3-4T, we have been lucky to have Miss Townsend teach us about the First Fleet and First Contact with the first Australians. The students have created poems, diaries, timelines and pictures to describe the conditions that the convicts faced. Our class studied the interactions between European settlers and the indigenous people and showed their understanding of how communication could have been difficult between indigenous people and Europeans. Students finally showed their understanding of the journey from the 'Hulks' in Britain to Rio de Janeiro, Santa Cruz and finally reaching their destination in Botany Bay in a narrative journal told in first perspective.
Miss Towsend finishes her final placement this week and we thank her for all she has taught our class and wish her luck for a bright teaching future.
Our maths group is working on fractions. We had a little competition this week to see who could put together objects from the classroom to represent fractions.
The students were very engaged and benefited greatly from using concrete materials.
Next week, Oreo Cookie fractions!
The school annual Scholastic Book Fair is being held next week. Students will have the oportunity to look at all the fabulous books on Monday, 8th November and complete a wish list of their favourites to be sent home. Accompanying the wish list is some infomation regarding how to pre-pay online. The actual Book Fair will be on Tuesday, 9th November for students and families to purchase books. We hope to see you there!
