Welcome back to school everyone, Term 4 is full of exciting learning opportunities for our students. Students have settled back in to school well and it has been pleasing to see the learning that is taking place in all classrooms. This week, our Grade 3-6 students took part in an Interactive Forensic Science Workshop called a 'Case of Emergency' and in the coming weeks students will be accessing a variety of extra curricula activities including Questacon, Reptile Education, Beach to Bush, K-2 Water Skills and Awareness, 3-5 Swimming and Water Safety, and more. Our Grade 6 students have begun their process of transition to high school this term and will have the opportunity to celebrate their time at Boat Harbour Primary School towards the end of the year.
Congratulations to the following students on being recognised as our Term Reps for SRC in this week's school meeting; Brianna, Joey, Kira, Jordyn, Xander, Tayla. These students will be coordinating our discos this week with our Student Executives and we wish them well in their leadership role.
Reminder that next Friday, 30th October is a student free day. Staff will be participating in Professional Learning to further their expertise.
We are looking forward to a fantastic end of year!

Forensic Science Workshop
This week the students in Grade 3 and 4 participated in a Forensic Science Workshop. The focus for this was to learn how science can be used to examine evidence, make observations, infer and draw conclusions.
The students worked in small groups which promoted team work, collaborative problem solving, co-operation and communication.
Specifically, the chidren worked towards solving a "fictional" crime (a missing person) by:
- checking the clues on social media
- examining fingerprints
- examining scats, and animal paw prints
- using forensic botany (plant and seed clues)
- using chromomatography.
After "solving" the crime each group was provided with one more piece of evidence and a map in order to "locate" the missing person and draw conclusions about the motive and sequence of events.
- evidence of identity (both for the child and for the parent/guardian
- proof of immunisation
- evidence of residential address.

Grades 3-6 Disco is 6:45pm – 8:30pm. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, parents will be required to drop their child off at the entry door beside the canteen and collect promptly at 8:30pm at the conclusion of the disco.
There will be refreshments available for purchase during the evening disco:

If you are not collecting your child at the conclusion of the evening, please provide a signed note with instructions on who will be collecting your child.
The theme for both discos coincides with the Book Week theme of ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’. Students may come dressed up as a book week character, or a wild jungle animal etc. Grades 3-6 students can choose if they come in a costume for the day.
What a great day we had for the Cross Country last term. The children certainly took to the challenge of the event, with some close tussles for the finish line. Well done to all!

Breakfast Club volunteers are planning another Pancake Day next Thursday, 29th October 8:30am - 8:55am - thanks to this wonderful band of helpers for organising this for our students!
Reminder for visitors to our school to be mindful of where and how they park. We understand parking spaces are limited, but request that visitors don't park in the disabled parking bay near the office, nor park in such a way as to obscure access.

The Department of Education is undertaking a Review into Reporting to Families. This Review will provide recommendations for our reporting system so that it continues to meet the needs of learners, families and schools in the most meaningful ways.
Parents and carers can have their say by completing the Families Survey before 13 November.
We encourage you to get involved and have your say.
