3-4 Celebrations
Forensic Science Workshop
This week the students in Grade 3 and 4 participated in a Forensic Science Workshop. The focus for this was to learn how science can be used to examine evidence, make observations, infer and draw conclusions.
The students worked in small groups which promoted team work, collaborative problem solving, co-operation and communication.
Specifically, the chidren worked towards solving a "fictional" crime (a missing person) by:
- checking the clues on social media
- examining fingerprints
- examining scats, and animal paw prints
- using forensic botany (plant and seed clues)
- using chromomatography.
After "solving" the crime each group was provided with one more piece of evidence and a map in order to "locate" the missing person and draw conclusions about the motive and sequence of events.
