Breakfast Club
We are fortunate to have a committed group of volunteers that provide a breakfast program at our school each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. These volunteers enable students to have some breakfast before the start of the school day, helping to ensure they are ready for learning. The Wynyard IGA and Young's Vegie Shed donate bread and fruit to allow the breakfast club to function and to be of no cost to students. We can’t thank them enough for their generosity! Despite this generosity, there are still costs associated with the program. All students are able to access the program with no questions asked. Any donations to help support the breakfast program would be greatly appreciated and support many students. Donations could include items such as produce, any spreads for toast, bread, butter, or even money to purchase necessary items would allow us to continue to provide breakfast for our students. Monetary donations may be made via the Qkr! app - select School Payments, Breakfast Club Donation. Thank you in advance for your support, and please support Young's Vegie Shed and the Wynyard IGA for the support they continue to give to our students.
Mid-Year Reports
Mid-year reports went home with students last Friday. This report is designed to provide parents with a snapshot indicating how their child’s learning is progressing. As a result of the significant time given to home schooling and the number of other interruptions associated with this, the specific feedback necessary for teachers to provide direct assessments for entire curriculum areas is limited. The 2020 mid-year report provided feedback regarding student’s wellbeing and progress in literacy in numeracy, a rating will be provided for curriculum areas at the end of the year. Feedback regarding student’s learning in the areas of literacy and numeracy were provided through written comments and their work habits through tick boxes. Two future focuses for both literacy and numeracy that indicate areas that students are working towards were also included. Parents are always invited to discuss their child’s learning with teachers, feel welcome to directly contact teachers or the school office to arrange a time to catch up.
Teacher Release Time
From the beginning of Term 3 teachers have been entitled to an extra 1 hour per week of release time off class. This is due to a new industrial agreement. During this extra release time teachers are planning, working collaboratively, testing, analysing data, accessing professional learning, marking, organising events and being prepared for many other aspects required to be an effective teacher. Teachers are accumulating this time over several weeks to maximise their use of this time and to limit the disruption to normal weekly routines and learning. Jan Radford is covering this release across the school, continuing learning programs with all students.
The Annual General Meeting for the School Association, which was unable to go ahead in March this year, has been rescheduled and will now be held on Tuesday, 8th September at 6.30pm. All welcome.
3-4E
In 3-4E Science we have been learning about the Sun, Moon and Earth. As part of our unit we created a portrait of the moon and sun using cool and warm colours.
You can see some of our portraits in the window at Dixon's Pharmacy in Wynyard.
3-4KB
In reading, the students in 3-4KB have been developing their inferring skills. This means they are learning to "read between the lines". The students have put these skills into practice in an Open-Minded Portrait and a Thylacine diary. Through these they have been challenged to identify how their characters have felt or what they have thought at critical moments in the story.
3-4T
In 3-4T the students have been exploring the states of matter; solid, liquid and gas. We have sorted our items into what category they fit into based on what properties or characteristics they have. Some rich discussion came out about a few items that could fit into more than one category. On Friday, we explored freezing by making ice-cream without a freezer! Yum!
Last Friday, 7th August, the SRC held Jeans for Genes day. Students and staff wore denim clothes for the day and everyone looked great.
The SRC raised $259.05 for the Children’s Medical Research Institute. Thank you everyone for your donations and support.
