Absences
Under the Education Act; the only reasons for authorised absences are:
- Sickness/incapacity
- Medical, legal or related appointments
- A natural disaster or extreme weather that prevents students from safely attending
- Terminal illness of an immediate family member
- Bereavement of a person that the student had a close, significant or family relationship with
- Having witnessed or been subjected to family violence
- Being a participant or official at a recognised National or International sporting, academic or cultural event
- Participation in a recognised learning experience initiated by an independent student or parent, where Principal is of the opinion that the experience or activity has educational value to the student
- Objection, as a matter of conscience, to participation in a particular school activity
- An application for home education being received by the education registrar and provisional registration being granted
All other reasons are considered by the DoE as unauthorised and this is how they will appear on students' absence reports at the end of the year.
If your child is absent from school we ask that you call, email, inbox, SMS or contact us via the website and explain the absence. It is important that you explain the absence to avoid it being marked as unexplained on your child's attendance report.
