Principal's Report

Welcome back!

It has been a wonderful start to the 2022 school year. I would like to thank parents for the outstanding job that you have all done in preparing your child for school this year. We acknowledge the challenges that have been presented to us already, however, the manner that students have returned to school is simply fantastic.  Students are settled, caring and ready for learning. Thank you parents and carers for being COVID safe when dropping children off at school and at collection times. Staff have worked tirelessly preparing learning spaces that are safe and engaging, we are extremely fortunate to have a school full of highly professional, passionate educators – I have never worked with such a high calibre group of teachers and support staff.

The health and safety of students, staff and the wider community is our highest priority. Proactive measures are in place in our school to create a COVID-safe learning environment.

These include:

Increased hygiene practices

  • staying at home when you’re sick and getting tested
  • regular handwashing and sanitising
  • avoid sharing drinks or food
  • frequent cleaning in schools, particularly on high-touch surfaces
  • plenty of supply of soap, hand sanitiser, paper towels and disinfectant wipes.

Abiding by physical distancing requirements

In schools, all adults will maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres from each other. However, physical distancing rules do not apply for students as per public health advice

Vaccination of all Department of Education staff

All Department of Education staff, including volunteers and contractors are vaccinated.

Increased ventilation in classrooms and use of air purifiers

We know that increased ventilation to enhance airflow indoors helps reduce the spread of COVID-19. Teachers have windows and doors open to allow airflow in each of the learning areas. Air purifiers are also being used. The school has purchased each class a CO2 monitor to measure the level of ventilation in each learning environment.

Use of outdoor learning areas

We are taking advantage of outdoor learning opportunities to ensure fresh air flow. Additional sunshades have been installed to create more outdoor learning opportunities.

Safe site management

All schools require visitors to check-in using Check in Tas, and non-essential visitors will be limited. Schools regularly review their COVID-safe plans and have clear procedures in place to manage any confirmed COVID-19 cases. You will receive information directly from your school should there be a closure. School closures will also be listed on the Alerts webpage

Wearing face masks

Face masks will be worn, in line with public health advice. Wearing face masks is a key strategy to help slow the spread of COVID-19. All schools have plenty of supplies of face masks.

The combined effect of these measures ensure we are providing safe places for our learners, staff and the wider community.

Thank you to parents for wearing masks when you are on-site and for COVID safe practices. Your support and understanding is helping all at our school during these interesting times. I look forward to working with you throughout the school year, please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s teacher to discuss their learning at any time.
