3-4 & 4-5 Celebrations

4-5KB

In recent weeks our work in English has involved developing an understanding of character traits – in particular, looking past ‘appearances’ and thinking about what characters are like on the ‘inside’.  We have thought about these traits in relation to characters in our Guided Reading texts, learned how to spell some adjectives to describe a character and also how to describe our own character traits in a poem.  We are now learning how to use a wider range of these descriptive words to describe characters in our stories.

3-4E & 3-4EM

The Heat is On

This term in Science 3-4 E and 3-4 EM have been investigating heat – what it is, how it is made, how it moves and why it’s important in our everyday lives.

Our first investigation involved dropping food dye into two glasses of water – one hot water and the other cold. Students were introduced to the idea of predicting what might happen, observing what happened, and then working out how heat effected the outcome of the experiment. Some of the hypothesis the students came up with:

  • “I predict that the hot and cold water will be coloured” -Jazeps
  • “If you put red food dye in hot water the water will turn cold because red is a hot colour” -Kristy
  • “The food colour when added to the cold water will travel faster than in the hot water because the hot water is more dense” -Charlotte
  • “that the hot water will produce bubbles and the cold water won’t change except the colour” -Ari

3-4T

3-4T have been working on our scientific skills. We have been exploring 'force and energy' and how we can use these to help propel our 'birds' further. The students focussed on testing, observing, measuring, and then refining their catapults to make the counters go further forward to knock over our towers. It was a lot of fun!
