1-2 Grandparents' Afternoon

In History, 1-2 Koalas, 1-2 Bilbies, and 1-2 Quolls have been learning about leisure time activities that our grandparents may have played in the past. Mrs Morgan’s class taught us how to play some of these games, so we decided to invite our grandparents/special elders in to join us for games and afternoon tea.

First, we all gathered outside and welcomed our grandparents to our lovely school. Mrs Eiszele read a special story about a button tin, and Mrs Bentley had brought her own tin in to share.

Then, we had a chance to share with our grandparents some special games that they used to play. The skipping rope was a big hit, and even some of our grandparents had a go!

Next, we offered our special visitors a nice cup of tea or coffee with an ANZAC biscuit on the side. We made the biscuits with the help of Mrs Bowers. They thought they were very tasty.

Lastly, some of the grandparents shared their special game with everyone. Mia and Jovi’s Ma Ma had a creepy doll that was about 150 years old! Ashley’s Granny showed us her beautiful handkerchief.  Corey and Hope’s Nan had her old cash register that still made noises, and Ollie’s Pop explained how to play marbles for keeps, or for fun.

We were so happy to have our grandparents come to share the afternoon with us because it doesn’t happen very often. Our special photos that Mrs Baker took will be treasured forever!                                                                          By 1-2 Koalas

Students interviewed their grandparents and wrote a newspaper article about them.
