Hope and Happiness in 1-2BK
To celebrate the reconnecting of our class last week, 1-2 BK worked together to create a “Cloth of Dreams”. This was a beautiful lesson of hope and happiness inspired by the work of educators in New Zealand to draw students back to learning. It was a way to help children think about the changed world and imagine how it might become better without asking children to talk directly about their own experiences or feelings. We imagined a young girl who had sadly torn her cloth of dreams, then designed a bright and cheerful new one to replace it. Next, we wrote our own magic thread recipe to mend the torn cloth. The thoughts and words given by our 1-2 students were inspiring, and our cloth of dreams now hangs pride of place in our classroom.
