From the Principal
Term 4 is already flying by as we enjoy a fantastic start to the term. Our Grade 1-2 students enjoyed an excursion to Stanley on Tuesday, learning about local history and most making it all the way to the top of the Nut! A reminder that as the sun begins to have more bite that all students need to have their school hats at school to wear during break times. Unfortunately, the Grade 3-4 Sports Expo was cancelled last Friday due to poor weather, an event that was cancelled rather than postponed because of the extensive logistical requirements involved in activities of this nature. Fortunately, teachers at BHPS created their own mini expo at school for students.
On Monday the school employed its lockdown procedure. Lockdown at school can happen for a large variety of reasons, with student safety always the key priority. It involves students moving directly to their classrooms, ensuring these areas are safe, secure and under the direct supervision of staff. This procedure is practised by students and staff to refine the steps involved and ensure it is an effective process. The challenge is that the reason for a lockdown is very contextual. I would like to commend all students and staff on the excellent manner that they conducted themselves on Monday. There was a situation where an unknown adult was seen on and around the school grounds at the start of the school day. Students were placed into lockdown and the police were called. The police assured the staff that there was no cause for concern as they found the person and removed them from the area. The school contacted parents via Schoolzine to inform them of the situation. All students were informed of the steps taken and revisited the lockdown procedures in a brief assembly to avoid confusion. If you have any questions regarding lockdown please contact the school.
We recognise the importance of fostering a partnership between home and school to enable students to be the best that they can be. Keeping you informed of your child’s learning is a key focus for staff. We also recognise that due to the busy nature of parents lives that it can be quite difficult for you to be in the school as often as you would like. SeeSaw is an app that allows you to receive regular updates about your child’s learning, including photos, videos and examples of student learning. Some parents will have already received information regarding SeeSaw and how to connect with it. Parents that have not connected yet can expect information regarding SeeSaw over the coming weeks. SeeSaw is something all classes will adopt in 2020 and feel that this will be a wonderful way for you to be informed and keep as a record of your child’s learning.
