Student Collection Point
Currently at the end of the school day, we have students that catch buses, attend after school care or that are collected. We have bus lists for each of the school buses and attendance at after school care. For the large group of collect students they are currently collected from a variety of places around the school, ranging from outside classrooms, corridors, beside the Prep classrooms, the school carpark or different points in the playground.
While I recognise that this system can be convenient, it creates accountability issues for us in regards to knowing where, when and how students are collected at the end of the school day. While we have not experienced any significant issues to date regarding student pick-ups, we need to be proactive to ensure we don’t have any problems in the future.
After school care students meet at a set spot. Bus students meet in their bus lines. Collect students will now meet in a set space too. This will ensure that these students are safe and are accounted for. All students that are collected will now move to the Japanese Garden outside the Grade 5-6 classes near Daisy the cow. There is an undercover space here for when the weather is poor and a nice garden area to wait in when the weather is fine. There is direct access to the carpark assisting with collection. We would appreciate parents waiting in this space in preparation to collect their child. I will be on duty in this space to help ensure the safe collection of all students.
Kinder parents are welcome to collect their child from Kinder or from the new collection point. If you collect your child from Kinder, please access the Kinder via the external paths, not through the corridors and classrooms.
Cyber Safety
Students in our upper primary grades have been learning about health, including cyber safety. Students have learnt about their responsibilities and how to be safe online. They have discussed appropriate behaviours and how their actions impact others. Specific examples include not to send messages that you would not say to someone's face, or post photos that you would not show them in person. Some students are unfortunately still making poor choices through social media, through things like Snapchat, Tic Toc and others. There is no reason for primary aged children to be using these networks. Many are not mature enough to use them appropriately and continue to make poor choices when they do. I suggest they are deleted until students are of the required age and after consultation with parents to use these platforms in the correct manner.
Netball
Recently our winter netball roster finished and I would like to congratulate students for their participation and parents for providing the opportunity for these children. A key role in all children’s sport is filling the difficult position of umpires. Treating umpires with respect is essential, allowing a game to be played in a positive environment and to demonstrate to participants the appropriate behaviours when playing the game. Many people are reluctant to put their hand up to umpire as it is recognised just how tricky the role can be. It is because of this I would like to say a special thanks to all volunteers that umpired, especially Karen Hyland, Theresa Weller, Naomi Crutchett, Monique Gardner and Allana Burke who consistently took the whistle. I look forward to seeing and hearing fantastic encouragement for players and umpires as we head into the next rosters starting soon.
