Grade 4's at Wings Wildlife Farm

Wings Wildlife Park Excursion

Our Year 4 students recently went on an eagerly anticipated excursion to Wings Wildlife Park, where they had the chance to learn about both Australian native animals and exotic species from around the world. The wildlife keepers shared fascinating facts about the animals, their habitats, and their diets. This excursion complemented the students' Geography studies, where they have been learning about the significance of the environment to native plants and animals. The visit to Wings Wildlife Park highlighted the importance of understanding how native animals thrive in specific environments, as well as the threats they face and the conservation efforts to protect them.

The students had the exciting opportunity to interact with several native animals, including wombats, Tasmanian devils, and koalas. One of the highlights was being able to get up close and personal with a baby Tasmanian devil—a rare and memorable experience. They also had the chance to meet Wally the Wombat and Blinky the Koala. Blinky is one of only two koalas in Tasmania, making this encounter especially unique and special for the students.

In addition to native animals, the students were introduced to a variety of exotic species, such as American bison, black-tufted capuchins, macaws, capybaras, common marmosets, ostriches, and the ever-popular meerkats. The guide provided engaging and informative insights into each of these animals.

The students also enjoyed seeing and interacting with farm animals, including alpacas, boer goats, camels, deer, llamas, miniature donkeys, and miniature horses. There were plenty of reptiles to observe, along with smaller animals to explore.

Despite the wet weather, the students had an enjoyable and educational day, gaining a deeper appreciation for the incredible diversity of wildlife at Wings Wildlife Park.
