3-4G Early Australia
In 3-4 G we have been researching early explorers. We looked at an early map of Australia and discussed why there is a lot of missing coast-line. We also investigated why Papua New Guinea is attached to Australia and why there is only an outline of the bottom of Tasmania.
Students completed research on explorers such as Abel Tasman and Luis Vas De Torres and we linked their names to many of the prominent places around Australia. After that we moved onto when all our Australian states were first settled and where our capital cities are located.
Students were then asked to name our closest neighbours and mark them on an extended map of our region. Each student then chose a nearby country and investigated their native wildlife and other interesting facts.
