5-6W Chemical Sciences
In Science, 5/6W have been looking at Chemical Sciences. We have been learning about the states of matter. We did an experiment to investigate out how a change in temperature can cause matter to move differently. We had 3 jars of water, one cold, one room temperature and one boiling. We dropped food colouring into each jar and observed how it moved. We discovered that in boiling water, the food dye moved and spread much more quickly than it did in the cold water. This is because the atoms in boiling water more closely resemble a gas and therefore the dye can move more freely than it can in freezing cold water. In cold water, the atoms are much closer together, therefore more closely resembling a solid.
