Principal Report

Term 1

It is hard to believe that we are at the end of Term 1 already, it has simply flown! This reflects the busy nature of schools, with things ranging from athletics carnivals to NAPLAN, excursions, visiting performances - but most of all, the focused and targeted learning taking place in every class across our school. We are extremely fortunate to have a determined and hardworking staff that do everything they can to support the learning of every child at Boat Harbour Primary School.

School Psychologist

We have been very fortunate to have Anna Hartley as our school psychologist. Anna is extremely dedicated to supporting both students and teachers in any way that she can. Anna is heavily invested in providing for students that require adjustments to their learning. She has a wealth of knowledge for staff to draw upon, especially as they cater for the individual needs in their classrooms. Anna is about to embark on her next challenge, filling a senior staff position at Romaine Primary School. Our loss is certainly Romaine's gain, and we wish Anna the very best as she tackles this next chapter in her professional journey. A replacement for Anna at Boat Harbour will be announced soon - they have big shoes to fill!

Easter Bonnet Parade

Thank you to all the parents and families that joined us on Monday morning for our Easter bonnet making and parade. Your involvement made a massive difference. You created an environment of inclusivity, happiness, teamwork, and creativity - thank you! Our students were so happy and engaged to share this learning and task with you, and they absolutely loved being able to parade their finished bonnets in front of you. We hope to have you join us again in classrooms working alongside students later in the year.

Athletics

Congratulations to those Grade 3 - 6 students that represented our school at the North-West Athletics Carnival recently. These students demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, teamwork and persistence, as every single one of them tried their best. Because of this, we are all extremely proud of them. Their efforts were of such a high standard, they managed to win the shield for their school division competing against like sized schools. Well done on this fantastic achievement!

Students that reached the finals in their events travelled to Penguin on Tuesday afternoon to compete in the Twilight Carnival. Congratulations William Elphinstone, Harry Gatenby, Sommer Beattie-Berne, Lex Forsyth, Bryce McNab, Harry Wilson, Liam McNab and Jovi O’Halloran for making it to the finals. Not only did every one of these students try their very best against very strong competition, the most impressive aspect of this carnival for me was the way our students supported not only each other, but other competitors as well. Well done for representing yourselves and our school in such an impressive manner. A special mention to Lex Forsyth for coming second in the 75m, William Elphinstone for coming second in the 400m, and to Harry Gatenby for winning the 1500m. Well done on these outstanding achievements boys.

Newsletter Surveys

Thank you for recently completing a simple survey about our school newsletter. The BHPS School Association is working through a process to find out how best to share information with families and celebrate students and their learning. The challenge we face is finding ways to achieve this for all families. We recognise that what suits one family does not necessarily suit other families. The School Association will share plans moving forward in Term 2.

Camp

With Term 2 just around the corner, our Grade 6 students have their camp to look forward to. Thank you to parents, the BHPS P&F, and student leaders for raising money for this camp to reduce costs for families.

Grade 6s will have one night in Launceston and three nights in Hobart, while enjoying many activities and learning opportunities they would not normally access. We can't wait to hear all about your adventures!

Holidays

We wish you all a safe and enjoyable Easter and holiday break. We look forward to you returning to school on Wednesday 26th April, ready for another busy and enjoyable Term.
