Assembly
We can’t wait to celebrate student learning and achievement in our Junior and Senior assemblies next Tuesday, 23rd August. Assemblies are always a wonderful opportunity to see our students shine, we hope you can join us. The Junior (Kinder to Grade 2) assembly will start at 11:15am, and our Senior (Grade 3 to 6- including 2-3W) assembly at 1:30pm. See you there!
Book Week
Tuesday’s assemblies will coincide with Book Week. On Tuesday students are encouraged to dress up as a book character, helping us celebrate reading, books and everything they bring to our lives. During the assemblies each class will parade their costumes, showing other classes their creativity, and the books they love to read.
Parent Teacher Meetings
Towards the end of Term 2 all parents had an opportunity to join teachers for parent teacher meetings to discuss their child’s learning. If for any reason you could not attend these meetings, please feel welcome to make contact with your child’s teacher to arrange a time to catch up. We recognise that working in partnership with families is the most effective way for us to maximise student learning and development.
Car Park Traffic
The school car park is a particularly busy space at the beginning and end of the school day. I encourage you to please be as safe and patient as you possibly can be to ensure the safety of everyone in this space. A reminder that the drop off point is a space to flow as freely as possible, with drivers staying in their vehicles to allow them to move forward whenever suitable and for children to move forward to vehicles once they have stopped. This allows traffic flow smoothly, efficiently, and safely.
AGFEST
Our Grade 6 students are looking forward to going to AGFEST next Thursday. They will be supervised in groups, studying the map and planning their time to maximise the exhibits and demonstrations that interest them. We look forward to hearing about their experience upon their return.

The P&F will be holding their annual Father's Day Stall on Thursday, 1st September. Each class will have the opportunity to visit the stall and purchase something for someone special in their life. The gifts range from 50 cents to 5 dollars. Thank you once again to our dedicated Fundriasing Group for giving our students this opportunity and also to everyone who contributed to the gifts on offer.
Aboriginal history and culture are embedded across our educational programs here at Boat Harbour Primary School. This fosters a higher level of knowledge and pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, culture and contributions. Recently, all students in Grades 1 and 2 participated in From Gumnuts to Buttons, which is a walk-through Tasmanian history from an Aboriginal perspective. It was delivered by Mrs Evetts and Mrs Baker, who are both trained, and proud Tasmanian Aboriginals. From Gumnuts to buttons was developed in 2002 with funding from the Department of Education, Tasmania, and Training and Youth Affairs. The interactive session gave students the opportunity to learn more about European settlement through the eyes of the Tasmanian Aboriginal people, and to develop a deeper understanding of Tasmania’s rich history. From Gumnuts to Buttons, and other integrated learning opportunities, aim to embed a culture of understanding, knowledge, pride and respect for the Australia’s first people.
Tasmanian Schools Triathlon Challenge
The Tasmanian Schools Triathlon Challenge for Grades 3-6 students will be held in Devonport on Thursday, 24th November. Entry forms are available from the front office if your child would like to participate.
Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
Those in Years 4–6 at Boat Harbour Primary School will be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department of Education’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy .
The details for the survey are:
When: 29th August to the 23rd of September
Who: All students in Grades 4 to 6.
What do I need to do: You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
A letter with more information has been sent home with all Grade 4-6 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey.

Do you have a child turning 5 in 2023?
Our Pre-Kinder program will commence in Week 3 this term.
The purpose of the Boat Harbour Primary School Pre-Kinder Program is to foster the uniqueness of each child while providing authentic opportunities for growth and readiness for Kinder.
Pre-Kinder program is designed to acknowledge each child as a capable and resourceful learner and support your child's sense of self and wellbeing.
We aim to provide children with the confidence to interact with adults and other peers. Encouraging them to communicate their needs and wants and to be able to have an active approach to learning .
We support children to be confident involved learners by:
- Reading books and providing a variety of play-based learning opportunties.
- Encourage them to explore and try new things.
- Responding to their needs and interests.
- Ensuring they have warm and nurturing relationships.
- Help them identify and manage their emotions.
- Encourage them to keep trying when they can't do things.
If your child is unwell, they need to stay home. But if your child is well enough to attend school, they should be at school. Every day, Monday to Friday.
The reality of missing school
Data shows us that regular school attendance is one of the best things a child can do to set them up for success. But if they don’t attend, things get harder for them.
Let’s do the maths:
- If your child misses even just one day a fortnight, that adds up to 20 days of the school year. That’s the same as missing four whole weeks of school!
- If they miss one day a week, that doubles to eight weeks of school they’ll never get back.
- Over the course of their childhood, that equals two and a half years of vital education they’ll never receive…
We mean it, every school day counts. It all adds up.
Bright futures begin at school
The data also tells us something else: the better a child’s attendance rate, the better off they’ll be. Their future will be filled with more opportunities.
School is where they learn and grow alongside their friends, and where they benefit the most. Going to school not only promotes academic success, but also helps build important social skills, relationships and confidence.
Good attendance habits in primary school lead to good attendance habits in high school. This will help expand your child’s options even further as they grow older.
