Volunteers
We are fortunate to have a school community that are eager to help our school and students in any way that they can. Volunteers are essential in helping us provide different opportunities across the school, including things like Breakfast Club, Canteen, P&F events, learning opportunities and much more. We are hopeful that in the near future parents will have greater access to classrooms due to COVID restrictions being relaxed. If you are available to give some time to volunteer, our canteen is always in need of helpers and your time would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to all volunteers across our school, we are extremely grateful to have you!
Cross Country
Our Grade 3 – 6 students will participate in a run-off tomorrow during PE to see who will represent Boat Harbour Primary School in the NW Cross Country held in Ulverstone on the 8th June. This opportunity has become available quite late for students. As a result we will be holding our school cross country later in the school year. Students are welcome to bring a change of clothes and especially a change of shoes in case it is muddy. Unfortunately parents will not be able to attend tomorrow but we are very hopeful they will be at our cross country later in the year.

In 2-3W we have been looking at poetry. We have learnt that poems can be rhyming or non-rhyming, structured or unstructured, long or short, funny or sad! To begin with, we used our five senses to describe the outdoors, and turned this into a poem:
Outside I see the strong wind blowing in the trees - Hunter
Outside I hear the birds chirping happily - Layla
Outside I taste icicles falling gently onto my tongue - Darcy
Outside I smell wood burning fiercely from the lightning – Willow
Outside I feel calm with the trees – Harper
We then learned about similes and how we can compare one thing to another to make our descriptions more vivid. We used similes to describe the colours of the rainbow:
Red is like a beautiful blooming rose on a prickly bush – Margot
Orange is like the sunset, going down for the night – Ruby
Yellow is like the warm sand at the beach – Kane
Blue is like the sparkling pond in my backyard - Kobi
Green is like the leaves swaying on the branches in spring - Sasha
Indigo is like the aurora bursting with colour – Ellie
Violet is like flowers blooming – Sophia
Here are some of our completed poems:
Thursday afternoons this term in 3-4E are focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) with Mrs Baker. Our first challenge together was ‘The Great Chain Race’ which required students to work in small groups to discuss how to create the longest paper chain out of one piece of construction paper! It was amazing to see the different strategies that emerged and how each team used their creativity, inquiry skills, communication and problem solving.
Brixhibition is on again! It’s time to get creative and design your own Lego masterpieces to be in the chance to win some fantastic prizes and have your piece entered into the Brixhibition Ulverstone 2022 competition. Entry forms are available from the front office, all entries must be accompanied by a signed permission slip and are due back to school by Friday 10th June.
