End of year assemblies
Thank you to all parents and families for making the time to celebrate with students at their end of year assemblies last Friday. Holding an assembly for Kinder / Prep, Grade 1-2, Grade 3-4, and Grade 4-5 / 5-6 allowed families to attend with minimal restrictions due to COVID. It was wonderful to have so many join us to celebrate the 2021 school year. Students were able to impress with class items and singing, and it was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate students that are achieving our values of Respect, Courage, Aspiration and Growth from each class. Well done to all students on showcasing your confidence and willingness to try new things, and again, a massive thank you to all that were able to attend the assemblies.
Fun Day
A massive thank you to our incredible parents that continually put their hand up to help our school and students with many different opportunities across the school. Your support and generosity allowed for an excellent fun day, including different activities to be accessed and a BBQ lunch to be shared by all. It was an excellent way to spend our fun day together, thank you and well done!
Staff Leaving
I wish Sue Bowers our canteen manager all the best as she chases her next challenge in life after providing for our students in the canteen for the last three years. Sue worked hard to get our canteen accredited and I thank her for the hard work she has given to achieve this. Sue’s position will be filled during the summer holidays. Thank you Kay Hamilton and Richard van Raay for teaching in our school during the year, your willingness to support all of our students in anyway that you can is greatly appreciated.
Thank you and Merry Christmas
Thank you for a wonderful 2021 school year! We are extremely fortunate to all be involved in such a fantastic school and I look forward to working with you again next year. Have a wonderful Christmas break, enjoy the summer and we look forward to the exciting learning that will accessed in 2022!
Peter Brown
Principal
Kinders have had a fantastic couple of weeks creating Christmas craft and having fun with their Kinder friends…before they become their Prep friends!
Today’s Fun Day was great…and the children were delighted by a special visitor in the afternoon!
The school will be open for Book Collection and Uniform Sales Days on Tuesday, 1st and Wednesday, 2nd February 2021, between 10.00am - 2.00pm. In 2022 we will not be invoicing families for levies until Term 1 commences, so it will not be necessary to make any payments for levies on these days.
DoE requires Information Validation and Special Data Collection forms to be updated annually, and we request that parents allow time to complete these forms for each of their children when they come in to collect books.
More information, including 2022 Canteen Menu Term 1, will also be available on these days.
Parents are welcome to pre-order their uniform requirements prior to uniform sales day via Qkr! These will be packed ready for collection when you come in.
Students will return to school for Term 1 on Wedneday, 9th February, 2022.

ookings are now open for children aged 5 to 11 to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Special vaccine clinics will run exclusively for children aged 5 to 11 across Tasmania from 10 January 2022.
Clinics will be held at community locations across the state to give every primary school aged child the opportunity to get at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine before they return to school in February.
Vaccinations are not mandatory to attend school, but we would encourage parents to get their children vaccinated to protect their children, their families, and our school community.
Last week a smaller paediatric dose of the Pfizer vaccine was approved as safe and effective for children aged 5 to 11 by Australia’s top medical experts.
Children will get two doses, eight weeks apart – but they will only be available in special children’s clinics and GPs.
Bookings are essential for children’s clinics and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
To find out more, including how to book, visit the Tasmanian Government’s coronavirus website
Congratulations!
I’m very pleased to let you know that Boat Harbour Primary School has earned a SILVER SmartFood Award for 2021. Well done to Mrs Susan Bowers and the wonderful canteen volunteers for preparing and serving up a tasty and nutritious range of canteen-made meals and snacks throughout the year. The SmartFood Award (formally the Canteen Accreditation Program) is a best practice model for food service management that recognises a school’s dedication to the health and wellbeing of its school community. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the wonderful work that Mrs Bowers, the canteen volunteers, School Business Manager Elizabeth Knight, Teacher Merian Ellis and your school community have done to earn this award – it is a fantastic achievement!
Four very important things were completed in order for your school to achieve the SILVER SmartFood Award. These were:
- Boat Harbour Primary School created a set of guidelines and procedures about how your canteen is managed.
- Your canteen meets your local council food safety requirements. This means that your canteen is a safe and hygienic place in which to store, prepare and sell food and drinks.
- Mrs Bowers tried out many different options and developed a menu that includes a range of fresh and tasty ‘everyday’ food and drinks, many of which were made from scratch in the canteen such as wraps, pizzas and salad bowls with seasonal specials like sushi or hot pastas and soups.
- Boat Harbour Primary school submitted 2 activities that were carried out within your school community that promoted healthy eating and sourcing produce from the school food garden.
I would also like to acknowledge the wonderful efforts of the volunteer breakfast club team who have been able to provide students with warm toast and a variety of fresh fruits at least three times a week. This is a very valuable addition to Boat Harbour Primary’s whole school approach to eating well. We look forward to continuing to work with and support the new school canteen food team at Boat Harbour Primary into 2022, and beyond!
With best wishes from Tina Ingram and the School Food Matters Team.
