Reports
Teachers have been busy this term writing your child’s End of Year report. This report provides families with a brief summary of student learning progress and achievement, including social and personal development. It will also include your child’s end of year assessment against the Australian Curriculum or their Learning Plan. A letter will be going home with the report outlining their attendance for the year and what class your child will be in, in 2022. As always, please feel welcome to discuss the End of Year Summary Report with myself or the classroom teacher.
Christmas message
Traditionally at Boat Harbour School our students have received a Christmas message. On Monday 13th December students will hear the 2021 Christmas message. This seems particularly relevant for students to hear what some people believe is the meaning of Christmas and why we have a public holiday on 25th December. At no stage is it suggested to students that they should hold the same beliefs, in fact it is explicitly shared that the beliefs individuals hold is their own opinion. This session is an opportunity for students to hear this information.
If you would not like your child to participate in this session, please contact the school office on 6445 1187 or let your child’s teacher know. There is no expectation or pressure for students to attend. Students that do not attend the session will work with teachers completing small group challenges in a different part of the school for the 30minute session time. Below is a snapshot of what will be shared with students by the group of people presenting from the Boat Harbour Church:
Every year around the world, people celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas Day, 25th December.
With Christmas almost upon us, we would love to take this opportunity to pause and remember how this wonderful event began. While we respect that not everyone shares the same beliefs about Jesus, we feel it is important for us to know why and how Christmas began.
This good news about the love, hope and joy found in Christmas is worth celebrating. Shepherds and wise men from Iran came to meet, honour and worship baby Jesus.
Bruce, Chris and Alysha from the Boat Harbour Church will share through songs and stories, the significance of Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem 2000 years ago. We’ll enjoy singing ‘Away in a manger’, ‘A baby’s born, born, born’, ‘Come on ring those bells’ and ‘On that very first Christmas’.
Picnic day
On the final Wednesday of the school year, 15th December, students will access a fun day here at school. There will be a waterslide, colour run and other fun activities that students will access. There will be a BBQ lunch for all to enjoy at no cost. Students are still required to bring their drink and morning tea, and those students that do not want to have the BBQ will also need to bring their own lunch on this day. Students are welcome to wear free dress and will need a change of clothes (preferably old clothes that won't matter if the colour powder doesn't all wash off) and/or bathers for some of the fun activities.
Staffing 2022
Planning for the 2022 school year is well underway, including firming up staffing for classes in the new year. There will be two significant staffing changes next year with Miss Tash Turner heading to Penguin High School and Miss Leah Skellington returning to teach at our school. Miss Turner has held long term aspirations to chase her passion to teach at a high school and she has finally decided to take the leap and join the Grade 7/8 team at Penguin. Miss Turner has been a long term teacher at Boat Harbour, with a significant commitment to upper primary, teaching for 9 years as a member of the 5/6 team. We wish her all the best in the future!
It is exciting to have a high quality teacher in Miss Skellington returning to Boat Harbour Primary School. Miss Skellington has a caring and kind manner that complements her strong teaching practice, making her a very welcome addition to the teaching team at our school. 2022 is shaping up to be a fantastic year with a wonderful group of teachers to provide quality teaching for your child. While we still have a couple of weeks in 2021, and summer holidays are always fantastic, I am already eager to get started for the new school year!

Wildlife Wonders
Recently students from Prep W and Prep KC discovered a mother possum and her baby sleeping in a stump in the playground. The students’ excitement and interest led to discussions about caring for our local wildlife, and was a wonderful link to our Science investigations about nocturnal animals. Unfortunately, the baby possum was found separated from its mother later that week, and is now being raised by a wildlife carer. The students were very respectful and quiet when they were lucky enough to get a close up look at the little possum.
The final School Association meeting for the year was held on 23rd November. As ever, this was a great opportunity for all parents and school community members to raise new ideas and discuss their thoughts. Topics discussed at this meeting included grant applications for building playground extension, family and staff working bee to re-vamp the Kinder yard, and raising funds to buy books for end of year school prizes. Each meeting a school policy is discussed, and this meeting focused on the use of See Saw for communication between school and home.
Mr Brown presents a Principal’s Report, and at this meeting he provided feedback regarding staff changes, budgeting for 2022 and the recent parent feedback survey. Mr. Brown is keen for ideas on how to communicate more easily with more families, and the option of having a suggestion box in the foyer was raised, as well as having each class represented within the Association.
The fundraising subcommittee presented their report; they’ve had an extremely busy and successful year with market stalls, lunch boxes, socks, teatowels, barbecues and more. They discussed the possibility of holding a school night market in April 2022, with stalls, music, food and drinks, and entertainment.
The School Association is always keen to have more families attend – you can consider joining the Association committee when nominations are called in March, 2022, or just show up for the odd meeting when you’re able. The dates of meetings are in the newsletter, or ask at the office. We’d love to see you.

Excavation/plumbing works will be taking place in the car park next Wednesday, 8th December from 9.00am. It is hoped this will not cause too much disruption to traffic flow in the car park, but ask parents to proceed with caution and follow any signs/directions when in the car park on that day.
