Welcome back to Term 2! Students have settled quickly back into class routines and are looking forward to the busy term we have planned. Today, our Parents and Friends held a stall for Mother's Day. Students had the opportunity to buy some lovely items. Thank you to those parents who helped coordinate and run the stall. Next week, students K-6 will be taking part in the TasNetworks Bright Sparks Program. This program teaches our students how to be safe with electricity.
Our Capital Works project is drawing to a close with the final touches being added to all upgrades and renovations. Our students and staff are very grateful and are making the most of our new facilities.
We have exciting news! Our canteen will officially open on Wednesday, 15th May. The canteen looks amazing and we wish Mrs Susan Bowers all the best on her first week using this space. We are sure she will cook up a storm!
This term, Mrs Eiszele will be taking long service leave from Monday, 20th May. Mrs Donaghue will be teaching in 1-2 Bilbies for the remainder of the term. Mr Brown will be returning to us in a couple of weeks. He is recovering well and would like to wish everyone a great start to the term.
SRC
This week our SRC Term 2 Representatives were announced. Congratulations to Ayla Ogden, Mani Sushames, Teegan Hyland, Alexander Saltmarsh, Gram Taylor and Oszkar Sulyok. We would like to wish these students all the best in their new leadership roles. This term, in Mrs Eiszele’s absence, Mrs Baker will be co-ordinating the SRC.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy will take begin next week, with all Grade 3 and Grade 5 students completing a series of tests. This year NAPLAN will be online. It is important that our students attend school for the next two weeks. A doctor’s certificate is required for absences. If you have any questions please contact the school.
National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy
NAPLAN commenced in Australian schools in 2008. Each year, all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9
participate in common national tests which assess:
- Reading
- Writing
- Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation)
- Numeracy
The benefits of participating in NAPLAN testing:
- NAPLAN tests the skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life such as reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy.
- NAPLAN results provide valuable information on how your child is progressing against national minimum standards of literacy and numeracy skills expected for each year level.
- The NAPLAN tests provide you as parents with an individual report that shows your child’s
results and a comparison of your child’s performance against all other Australian students in their year level. - Teachers use the NAPLAN results to determine your child’s areas of strength and where future focus is required and how best to provide support or extensions activities.
- School teachers use the online NAPLAN Toolkit to analyse your child's results. The Toolkit
provides detailed information right down to the individual question with links to teaching
strategies. - Principals, senior staff and others use NAPLAN results to inform school planning and to allocated resources and support including informing decisions around targeted programs and initiatives for individuals and groups.

Kinder Wombats - Anzac Day Art
This term, Kinder Wombats have been discussing Anzac Day and why it is a special day. We read the story ANZAC Ted and looked at photos of poppies. We discussed what they represent and created out own poppy pictures.
The blue Vinnies donation bins are designed for you to drop your unwanted clothing into. If an item is too big to fit inside the blue bin items are to be delivered to a Vinnies shop. Due to a lot of items being dropped beside the Vinnies donation bin in our school carpark (including a fridge), Vinnies will be removing the bin from our school carpark in the near future. If you have any unwanted clothing or other items you will now need to take them to your nearest Vinnies store.
Wet Weather - Clothing and Socks
Due to the wet weather we ask that all students have a spare pair of socks in their school bags.
We have no spare socks at school, if you have old outgrown socks (in good, washed condition) that you are willing to donate to the school please drop them into the office.
Kindergarten parents are asked to pack a full change of clothing including underwear and socks for students. Please also send Kindergarten students along with a pair of gumboots.
Thank you in advance.
If your child is sick, we ask that you keep him/her at home. It is not the responsibility of teachers to administer medication to students with minor/non-contagious ailments. Parents may however, visit school to administer any necessary medication.
Should your child have a medical condition that requires prescription medication to be administered at school, parents must complete the Administration of Medication Authorisation Form A. Administration of Prescribed Medication Authorisation Form B must also be completed by the doctor or pharmacist to authorise the school to administer the prescribed medication. All medication must be supplied in its original packaging, with prescription attached, and is to be kept at the office.
These forms are available at the office, on the forms section of our website or by clicking the button below.
On Easter Sunday, the SRC delivered 2 baskets of Easter goodies to Synovum Care Wynyard. The residents were delighted to see all the donations and were impressed with the amount of respect and thoughtfulness shown by our students. We received a letter from the Centre expressing their gratitude for the act of kindness from students at Boat Harbour Primary. Thank you to Mrs Baker and students who spent Easter Sunday morning at the Wynyard Care Centre.
Lest we forget.
