Welcome Back!
It is fantastic to be back at school for the beginning of Term 3. Students and teachers have hit the ground running, continuing targeted routines and learning across the school. It is with pleasure we welcome Mrs McDonald to our Grade 4-5 class and welcome back Miss Wescombe to her 1-2 class. Mrs Kalweit is on leave and Mrs Baly is filling a role at Wynyard High School. We are extremely fortunate to have such a committed and supportive staff at Boat Harbour Primary School for the remainder of 2021 and we look forward to working with students, parents and the broader school community, fostering a safe and supportive environment for all.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Parent Teacher meetings are currently being held across all classes this week. These meetings provide an excellent opportunity for parents and teachers to communicate about student learning. While discussing academic progress is common, equally important is student wellbeing, including their social and emotional growth. If for any reason you have not had the chance to meet your child’s teacher this week, please contact the school office to organise an alternative time if you feel the need. Please always feel welcome to contact me or your child’s teacher to enable us to work in partnership with you to support your child in being the best they can be.

In Science, Grade 5-6 N and 5-6 G have been learning about volcanoes. They completed a series of set learning tasks and finished the unit by building a paper mache volcano. Students were able to make their volcanoes erupt by adding bi-carb and vinegar. Here are some quotes from the students –
What was your favourite part about the volcano unit?
Deij – Exploding the volcanoes!
Jordyn – I enjoyed learning facts about volcanoes.
Charlie – Adding the chemicals together and watching them react.
Adam – It was fun painting the volcanoes!
Congratulations to the following students who have had a piece of their artwork from Term 2 selected for framing. Framed artwork will be presented in the next assembly before going on display in our student gallery in the corridor.

On Tuesday, 3rd August all Grade 5 and 6 students will be involved in the NWPSSA Grade 5-6 Sports Expo at various venues around Burnie and Somerset. Boat Harbour Primary School students will be participating in football at Burnie High School, soccer at McKenna Park, netball at Burnie Netball Courts, King of the Court at the Upper Burnie Sports Centre and tennis at the Burnie Tennis Club. In the event of poor weather, the back up day is Thursday, 5th August.
A notice was sent home with students yesterday advising which sport your child will be participating in.
To ensure all students are at the designated venue for their sport before commencement at 10.00am, the bus will be leaving school promptly at 9.00am. Please ensure your child is at school on time, as the bus will not be held for latecomers. Students will return to school after the Expo by 3.00pm.
Sports clothes should be worn on the day, ready to play (track pants or shorts and a school top - be prepared for cool weather). Sandshoes or sneakers are of extreme importance, and we suggest bringing a change of shoes and socks and a plastic bag for muddy clothes. Students will need to bring a packed recess and lunch and plenty to drink - no canteen facilities are available.
Children playing soccer will need to bring shin pads if they have them. The school does have a small number of shin pads that children may borrow.
Due to there being strict venue limits on the indoor venues, a blanket ruling of NO spectators at this even in any venue has been implemented to avoid confusion in our north west community.
If the Sports Expo is postponed due to the weather, an announcement will be made on Sea FM and posted on the NWPSSA Facebook page, and classes will continue as normal.
On Friday, 30th July Boat Harbour Primary School will be holding a Magical Friday Dress Up Day. Students are invited to dress up as a magical creature and a gold coin donation would be greatly appreciated. All funds raised will be donated to the Fairy Godmothers. The Fairy Godmothers is a registered not for profit organisation situated in Burnie. Their mission is to assist the Tasmanian community and families who have children with disabilities, special needs and medical conditions.
Next Wednesday, 4th August students from Kinder – Grade 2 will take part in a 35 minute personal Safety Education Program, The Ditto Show.
The Ditto Show is a program run by Bravehearts and provides students with the basic principles of personal safety to enable them to stay safe in a fun, engaging and interactive manner. Topics covered during the session will include: yes/no feelings, the body’s warning signs, private parts and what to do if you feel unsafe or unsure. The principles taught throughout this session have been shown to reduce the prevalence of child assault, violence and bullying in a range of settings.
Session times: 9.45am Kinder, 1-2H, 1-2LM, 1-2ME & 1-2W
For further information please visit http://www.bravehearts.org.au and follow the links. A letter with more information will be going home with children in the classes above today.
Parents are most welcome to attend the sessions. Children in Kinder B, who do not attend school on Wednesdays, are welcome to attend the session with their parent.
Work is continuing in our Library, which is starting to look "Really cool! Because it is easier to find the books and I love the new "Returns" slot! The painted walls are much more fresher and they don't have patches of different colours. I really can't wait to see what it looks like with all the new racks and books put back in!" Bella (Grade 3-4EM)
The new carpet has been laid, the old navy brick columns have been painted and new furniture added and ordered. We would like to particularly thank Mrs Alicia Alford, Mrs Andrea Beswick, Mrs Lois Hutchison, Mr Peter Debono and Mrs Jenny Brooks for their hard work, creative vision and commitment to improving the environment for our students. We are hoping to complete the work by the end of term and will share some photos then.....for now, here is a sneak peak!
Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, school banking will not be available next week.
Children are to bring their bank deposit books in each Tuesday from 10th August. Banking will be processed each Tuesday, and deposit books will be sent home at the end of the day.
Students in KC who don't attend on Tuesdays can continue to bring their bank deposit books in on Wednesdays and these will be processed and returned the same day.

Do you have a few spare hours on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays? The canteen is in need of some more volunteers to add to the roster. Even a couple of hours on any of these days would be helpful, particularly between recess and lunchtime. Please contact the school office for more information if you are able available to assist.
With the wet and muddy conditions currently being experienced outside, mishaps sometimes occur and a change of clothes is needed. Our stock of spare clothing is depleted - do you have any suitable clothing that your child/ren have outgrown to donate to the school for spares?
We would be particularly interested in spare trousers/trackpants, t-shirts/tops, jackets/jumpers, socks and pants. Please leave any items you may have at the office.
Sending a spare set of clothing with your child, especially in the younger grades, is also encouraged.
Burnie Netball Spring Roster and 10/Under Tryouts
The BNA Saturday spring roster begins in 6 weeks. This roster is open to both girls and boys from Grade 2 through to Grade 6.
For the school to be able to submit a netta or netball team a coach, umpire and canteen volunteer are required for each team. BHPS was unable to have a team in the winter roster as there was no-one to assist in the above roles, hopefully this won't be the case for the spring roster.
Permission forms indicating your child's interest in playing netta/netball are available from the office. If you are able to assist in coaching, umpiring or canteen volunteering please note this on permission form.
Forms need to be returned to the school office by Monday, 2nd August.
10/Under Development Netball Tryouts
10/Under Development Netball Tryouts for the Devon Carnival are being held on Tuesday, 3rd August @ 3:45-5:15pm in the Marist Gym. This is open to both boys and girls.
This will be the training night up until the carnival on 19th September. Parents will need to sign children in with their name, age, contact number and preferred positions before tryouts begin so I suggest getting there a few minutes before please.
Children are to wear sports clothing and sneakers and bring a drink bottle also.
We ask that all adults sign in before entering the gym and use COVID safe measures at all times.
Any other information needed please contact Yvette on 0417311415.
Parents and Friends are holding a fundraising Pasta Bolognaise Day on Monday, 9th August. Paper order forms went home today with your children or you can order on QKR. Orders MUST be in by 3.00pm Monday, 2nd August.
