Welcome back
It was fantastic to see students return to school this week! The start of a new school year can often come with some nerves, however it was quite obvious that parents and carers had done a wonderful job in preparing their children for the beginning of the school year as students entered the school in a positive manner. To see the genuine happiness between students as they saw each other for the first time since last year is always a first day highlight, along with the excitement of being in new classes.
We had quite a number of new students to our school that we had the pleasure of welcoming yesterday also – if you see any new students around our school please say hello and make them feel welcome.
Teachers have worked hard preparing vibrant and engaging classrooms across the school and have all shared how settled and ready their classes are for learning.
As always, please make contact with your child’s teacher or me if you have anything regarding your child’s learning and development that you would like to discuss. We are looking forward to building on the sensational start to the year and having a fantastic 2021!

Physical Education this year will be held on Thursdays for these classes: 3-4T, 3-4EM, 3-4E, 4-5KB, 1-2ME and Prep W. To enable the children to fully participate in the wide range of activities, it would be highly beneficial for them to have shoes that enable them to run safely and either shorts or tracksuit trousers to allow ease and comfort of movement. In addition, if your child is unable to participate at any stage, could they please bring a brief note reflecting this.
Lorraine Evans
Physical Education Teacher
MORNING DROP OFF: A friendly reminder that due to duty of care students cannot be dropped off at school before 8:30am each morning, when teachers are on duty in their classrooms.
AFTERNOON PICK UP: Supervision for all students ceases at 3:05pm, please ensure your children are collected beforehand. If your child/ren are on a bus list and you wish to pick them up instead, you must tell the bus teacher before taking them so they know that the student has gone.
Bus teachers ensure each person on their list is accounted for before sending their line to the bus and when they cannot locate a child due to them being collected it then delays the bus.
BUS LISTS: Bus lists have been collated at the start of the year, therefore if there is a permanant change we ask that you call the school office to advise us of this. If there is an unexpected change it is important that you please call the school office as soon as possible so that a note can be arranged to go to your child. Alternatively, if you know of the change prior to your child leaving home, write them a note, which he/she needs to show to the bus teacher.
Any questions regarding any of the above please get in touch.
Starting from next week we can again offer three days of toast and fruit, running Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday every week this term.
With wonderful support and donations from Wynyard IGA, Youngs Vegie Shed, Rocky Cape Lions Club, many parents and our community, we were able to offer a Breakfast Club last year, and look forward to another great year of the same.
A huge thank you to all those parents who have volunteered their time to keep this program running.
Pippa Mills
Coordinator
Parents/carers please ensure that you are sending your child to school with a nice big drink bottle full of water each morning.
Bank books will be returned in the grey banking bag to the classrooms on Wednesday ready to be sent home with children that afternoon. The new deposit balance should appear in account balance by Thursday.
Our Kinder - Grade 6 Athletics Carnival has been scheduled to take place on Thursday, 25th February. PE teacher, Lorraine Evans, will be seeking some willing helpers to assist with the running of the day - please leave your name at the office if you may be able to help.
Canteen Supervisor, Susan Bowers, will be setting up near the oval on the day to allow parents and students to access the canteen from the Carnival. To be able to offer a special Athletics Day menu and run this successfully, she will also need additional volunteers - are you able to help?
Please see next newsletter on 18th February for more information.

Boat Harbour Primary School’s canteen is run by Canteen Supervisor, Sue Bowers, with help from volunteers. The canteen operates from Wednesday to Friday. We are focused on providing healthy nourishing food for students and staff, and though some items are sourced from suppliers accredited with the Tasmanian School Canteen Association Inc., they are mostly made and prepared within the school canteen. We aim to use locally grown and seasonal vegetables and fruit as much as possible, and also to introduce foods from other cultures. We can also provide for special dietary requirements on request – e.g. gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan.
Orders are to be written on a paper bag or envelope with your child’s name, class and money enclosed, or ordered via the Qkr! app (download instructions available from the office) and should be submitted by 9 a.m. every canteen morning. Every week we offer specials on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and you will find these advertised in the school newsletter. Basic menus are available online or from the school office, and it is a good idea to have this printed out and attached to the fridge.
Our canteen relies on the support of volunteers. Volunteers are the canteen’s most precious resource. With plenty of volunteers, the canteen has a good recipe for producing the best quality food for students and staff, as well as a healthy income for the school.
However, there are also many benefits to volunteers from working in the canteen.
Volunteers can:
- make new friends, gain personal growth and satisfaction.
- improve or learn new skills for employment, add to a resume or gain a reference.
- contribute to the school community (e.g. raise funds) – after all, in most cases, volunteers will have a child or children at the school!
- even use volunteer hours in the canteen towards work for the dole or community work activities for those in receipt of income support from the government.
Volunteers in the canteen do not need to be just mums – dads, grandparents, older brothers or sisters, aunts, uncles or friends are also most welcome.
There are many benefits to volunteering! You will make new friends, you can improve or learn new skills, you will definitely have a few laughs with a great bunch of people, and most important of all, you will be doing something very worthwhile for your school community. It is impossible to put a price on the value of the work that you do for us.
THANK YOU
If you are interested in joining our band of canteen workers, contact Liz Knight or Sue Bowers. All are welcome.
Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP)
The Department is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and other vulnerable people on DoE premises, therefore, in line with the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Policy, all employees, volunteers, contractors and external providers who work or attend a DoE worksite in their respective capacity must hold current RWVP.
If you would like to volunteer your time at the school, either as parent help in the classroom, at a sports carnival or excursion, on one of our parent committees, or in the canteen and you don't as yet have RWVP, please click here for information about how to apply. Please nominate Department of Education and our school within the existing employment or volunteer section of your application.
All volunteers coming onsite are to complete the Visitor/Volunteer logbook at the office prior to proceeding into our school. Please make sure you have your RWVP card with you whenever you visit the school, as office staff are required to check the current status of all registrations on the Department of Justice website at each visit.
The requirement for RWVP does not apply to parents/guardians/relatives in the following situations:
- Dropping off or collecting children, including short periods of settling children in class where the teacher is present.
- Attending school community events (assemblies, school sports carnivals, plays and concerts) where they are not direct participants and/or do not assist in the organisation or implementation of these events.
- Attending school for a parent information evening, parent/teacher interviews or to hear a guest speaker.
Please remember to be COVID safe. There is no longer any requirement to fill in visitor health screening forms when you visit our school, and no need to sign in inless you plan on being here for longer than 15 minutes.
