End of Year Assembly
The End of Year Assembly is always a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the school year, reflect on different events and recognise achievements from across the school. Due to COVID-19 and the impact that has on social distancing and venue density requirements, our End of Year Assemblies will look different in 2020.
To allow every child to have the opportunity to have someone in the crowd to support them and to achieve the appropriate requirements, we will be holding separate assemblies for Kinder-Prep, Grades 1-2, Grades 3-4 and for Grades 5-6. Each student will be able to have either one parent, family member or friend attend their assembly.
Our Kinder-Prep assembly will be held at 11:15am on Tuesday 15th December, and our Grade 1-2 assembly will be held on the same day at 1:30pm. Each assembly will run for about an hour.
Our Grade 3-4 assembly will be held on the evening of Friday 11th December at 5:00pm. The Grade 5-6 assembly will be held on the same night, starting at 6:45pm. It is expected that the Grade 5-6 assembly will run a little longer than the other assemblies, providing an opportunity for our Grade 6 students to celebrate their primary school years. Students in Grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 who are members of the school band and senior choir are invited to attend both assemblies. The parents of these children will only be able to attend the actual assembly of their child, but are welcome to stay at the school in Minimbah where they can have a coffee to wait for their child to sing or perform.
The assemblies will be live streamed to allow family and friends that cannot be present to tune in and watch students perform. While this is a different format than we would prefer, it is a unique opportunity for every child to be up on stage and present - something we are very much looking forward to.
Grade 1-2EE and 1-2BK
We’re All Active Citizens
This term, the Early Childhood team of teachers have been working together to refocus our teaching and learning, particularly with developing, nurturing and supporting children to:
- use their own minds,
- make choices,
- ask their own questions,
- construct their own meanings,
- understand their rights and responsibilities as active citizens both within the school and local community.
As a result of this refocus, 1-2EE and 1-2BK teachers have guided their students through an inquiry cycle that began with one very big question…
“Why is Our Earth so Precious?”
We unpacked Earth’s “Treasures” (Resources), and grouped them in to 4 areas; Living, Water, Air, Rocks/Soil/Minerals.
Through our purposeful learning environments, children were supported to ask questions, wonder and take action.
Children began collecting the waste produced throughout the day and worked together to make suggestions about how they can be active citizens and reduce their impact on the environment, starting in our own classrooms.
Stay tuned to find out how the children persuade others to care for our precious Earth!
Grade 1-2H
Kinder - Grade 2 Water Skills and Awareness Program
The annual Water Skills and Awareness Program for Kinder - Grade 2 students will commence in mid-November in our portable pool and run over 4 weeks. The Grade 1-2 program will commence on Monday, 16th November and run till Friday, 27th November. This will be followed by our Kinder - Prep program from Monday, 30th November - Friday 11th December.
Our Austswim instructor for the program has requested that all students wear swimming caps. Swimming caps assist in maintaining body heat (brought about by heat escaping from the scalp) and maintaining a good water quality. The cap prevents long hair from interfering with breathing and vision, as well as saving students from returning to class with wet hair.
Students whose parents pre-ordered a swimming cap will be allocated their cap on the first day of swimming – please confirm with the office if you are unsure whether you ordered. Should any other students still wish to purchase a cap, they are now available from the office for $2.00 each.
A letter with your child's swimming time will be sent home with Grade 1-2 students today. Kinder and Prep letters will follow in coming weeks.
Payment prior to the commencement of your child's program would be appreciated. Please contact the office if you need to make other arrangements.
Grade 3-5 Swimming and Water Safety Program
The Department of Education Swimming and Water Safety Program for all Grade 3-5 students commences at the Burnie Aquatic Centre on Monday, 16th November for two weeks, concluding on Friday 27th November. Fees for this program are not invoiced separately, as per the early childhood program, but were included in levies at the start of the year.
Blue Group: Grade 3-4KB and Grade 3-4T will be leaving school at 9.15am daily and will be swimming between 10.05am - 11.05am
Green Group: Grade 3-4E and Grade 5G, 5N and 5W will be leaving school at 10.15am daily and will be swimming between 11.05am - 12.05pm
Notices, along with consent and medical forms, were distributed last week and contain further information about the program and what students will need to bring every day - please contact the school office if you did not receive one for your child. It is essential that forms are completed and returned prior to the commencement of the program.
It is Department of Education policy that all students wear swimming caps during the program. All STAS students will be allocated a cap at no charge before the program starts. Swimming caps are available now to purchase for $2.00 from the school office.
