Harmony Day and Bullying No Way
Last week we celebrated Harmony Day and in the previous week we highlighted that we Stand Together against Bullying.  The message has been clear about the way we act.  Quite simply, we treat each other how we want to be treated.  We accept others for who they are and their beliefs.  We acknowledge that it is our responsibility to help others feel welcome and safe.  Sadly, unfortunate incidents happen around the world and these can be highly publicised. Most recently there has been the incident in New Zealand. We promote strongly that there is a significant amount of good in the world and how each of us can contribute to this.  Please be aware that some students have little awareness of what has happened in New Zealand compared to others that are fully aware. I wanted to bring this to your attention as students talk and sometimes this can lead to misunderstandings and concerns from some students. If we can support you in any way with your child please let us know.

Parent Meetings
Last Thursday afternoon, parents had the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher to hear about learning programs, routines and expectations in their classrooms.  These meetings allow there to be clarity between home and school about the learning students are accessing during school. I encourage you to always make contact with either your child’s teacher or me if you have anything to discuss in regards to their learning. Opportunities for teachers and parents to discuss student learning only helps build the partnership between home and school and supports children in becoming the best that they can be.

It was relaxing to have a BBQ for all to enjoy throughout the afternoon as parents met with teachers. Thank you to VJ’s bakery for donating bread for the BBQ and to Wynyard IGA for helping us with the sausages.

Garage Sale
Boat Harbour Primary School has a large amount of old school furniture and resources that are surplus to our needs. We have kept a lot of these items in storage and it is time for a massive cleanout. On Friday 5^th April from 4pm – 6pm, and on Saturday 6^th April from 8am to 10am we will be holding a garage sale at the school. Members of the community are welcome to come along and sell things too, $10 a table/car boot. There will be a BBQ available at both times for food to be purchased. Come along and grab yourself a bargain!

NW Athletics Finals
Congratulations to Tanna Crutchett for coming third in the 75m finals last Tuesday evening in Penguin. This is a very impressive result, well done Tanna!  Jed Wilson, Jazz Lazenby and Luka Whitcombe all participated in their respective 1500m races. Participating at this level is an impressive achievement and we are all proud of the way you all represented our school and tried your best, well done.

Football and Soccer
Some of our students have recently accessed experts in Football from AFL Tasmania and Soccer Tasmania during PE. It is wonderful to see students embracing different opportunities, trying new things and having a positive approach to learning. Having kids laugh, work together and succeed through learning is a key reason why playing sport should be fostered. Students can look forward to accessing a variety of different sports through the year.

Forest the school dog
Recently Forest started attending Boat Harbour Primary School. She is a placid Golden Retriever that will work alongside students at different times throughout the week.  Forest helps some students feel connected, less anxious and happy. She can assist with regulating some students and help them with their behaviour.  For some students, being around Forest helps them learn and build their understanding of animals and pets. There is a large amount of research about the benefits of support dogs and of students reading to dogs. Forest will spend time in classrooms and the playground with students from Kinder through to Grade 6. Feel welcome to say hello to her the next time you visit our school.

Little Learners has started for the year in our new dedicated LIL space, the hall/Performing Arts area. Naomi Foss joins me in welcoming both familiar families and new families. Little Learners is a great place for your child/children to interact with others their own age through fun, play and exploration of varied hands-on learning opportunities.

LIL will run every Monday (excluding school holidays) from 9:00am - 10:30am.

The 3-4 Kookaburras have been very busy learning to create Paper Batik and Friendship Similes. 

We would like to thank all those who came to support us at the pancake stall on Saturday, 16^th March at the Wynyard Show! Thank you to everyone who bought our pancakes, donated ingredients and especially to the P & F. A special thanks goes to Nichols Poultry, Narelle Edwards and Antonia Wells. The help was much appreciated.

Grade 6 Students

Kindergarten Wombats are looking for cardboard cylinders, if you have any please drop them over to Kindergarten or at the front office. Unfortunately, due to hygeine we cannot accept toilet rolls.

This term in Art, Grade 1-2 Koalas have been focusing on Pablo Picasso. These drawings are inspired by the famous painting called 'The Old Guitarist'. They have been created using oil pastel and die wash.
