During the last two weeks, our Kinder and Prep students have been participating in our K-2 Water and Awareness Program. We are very fortunate to be able to provide this program for all students. Having students feel safe around water is an important life skill and it has been a pleasure to see students gaining confidence in the water. Next week, our Grade 1 - 5 students will begin their swimming programs. Parents please take this opportunity to come in and see these fabulous programs.
Mr Brown is currently away and receiving further treatment for his leg. He hopes to return to BHPS in the next couple of weeks. We wish Mr Brown a speedy recovery.
Well done to the SRC for hosting a very organised and well presented assembly today. Students enjoyed showcasing their learning to their fellow students and especially those parents and friends who were able to attend. Students love presenting to their parents and friends, it allows them to feel special and valued. Congratulations to those students that were presented with certificates and awards, keep up the great work. Well done:

K - 2 Water Skills & Awareness Program
Unfortunately due to issues with the pool heater this week, we were unable to allow any Kinder and Prep lessons to go ahead yesterday. Parents will be reimbursed via cheque for one swimming day.
Reminder that payment for this program is now overdue. If you have not as yet paid, payment as per online options on the bottom of invoices, or by cash or card at the office, would be appreciated as soon as possible. Please contact the office if you need a copy of your invoice, or wish to set up a payment plan.
We have built a ‘Bug Hotel’ and are waiting in anticipation for all our 'customers' which will move in. We watched a video on the 'Great Pacific Garbage Patch' and what happens to the animal's habitats if we aren't responsible with our plastic use and putting rubbish in the bin.

Department of Education Student Assistance Scheme (STAS)
The Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) provides assistance for families with low income towards the cost of school levies and is available for students attending a Tasmanian government school or registered non-government school. Eligibility is determined by an income test which all applicants must satisfy. Application forms for 2020 are now available at the school office (or using the link below). If you were accepted in the scheme for 2019, you do not need to reapply for 2020. If you did not apply for STAS in 2019 and think you may be eligible: you will need to complete a STAS Application Form and provide documentation giving proof of the families combined taxable income - we can make copies for you. Your eligibility to apply for STAS can be determined from the table below. Regardless of how many children you have, you only need to fill in one form. Please complete and return the form to the school as soon as possible to ensure that your application is approved before the start of the 2020 school year.

In the initial correspondence about the triathlon, transport was to be a parent responsibility, however, it did also mention that we would investigate the possibility of arranging a bus. Unfortunately, the bus is not a viable option and parents will be responsible. However, this year Mr Brown will meet parents and competitors at Devonport, to have a central meeting spot for all and to help support the children. Packs and further information will be given to the competitors closer to the Triathlon date.
