Tomorrow is the Boat Harbour Primary School Athletics Carnival. This is always a fantastic opportunity for our school community to come together, celebrating participation and achievement. Students simply love having the opportunity to compete in front of their family or friends, so if you are able to come along and encourage our students you will be most welcome. Parents are asked to park their cars and view the carnival from the outside of the oval area, leaving students to sit in their house teams.
I recently became aware that we have two students in our school that are allergic to peanuts. These students can have significant allergic reactions to peanuts so we ask that you do your best not to send your child with peanuts to school. These students are very careful and responsible, however our collective support to ensure their health and safety is greatly appreciated. Peanuts are specifically the issue, other products that contain different nuts are fine, including Nutella or other items that have other nuts in them. Thank you for your understanding.
Don't forget nominations for our School Association close this Monday, 4th March. Nomination forms are available from the front office.
A reminder that our duty of care for students starts at 8:30am each school morning. Students that are required to be dropped at school before this time can play in the school playground where they will be supervised.

The administration renovations have finally finished and Mr Brown, Mrs Knight, Miss Moore, Mrs Eiszele and Miss Gardner have officially moved into their new office spaces.
Our new Performing Arts room will now be used Mondays for Little Learners, Thursdays and Fridays for Music and class group activities on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Due to the new layout of the office and Performing Arts room there will be no access for parents to the office via the hall. We ask that parents go around to the carpark side of the office to the parent counter. Students can access the student counter internally.
We hope to have our Canteen renovations finished before the beginning of Term 2. Please keep an eye out for our 50 cent Friday Specials that Mrs Bowers will be running every Friday in the meantime.
Below is the flyer that was sent home to all York Street bus students at the beginning of term.
The Department of State Growth has advised that the charges for the York Street bus will begin this Monday, 4th March.
The cost of the student fare is $1.80 each way, however a 20% discount on the fare is available when a ten ride ticket is purchased from the bus operator. A ten ride ticket will cost $14.40 and will enable students to travel for ten trips on the bus. Fares will need to be paid in cash.
All tickets are to be purchased from the bus operator.
In the event that a student does not have the required fare/pre-paid ticket to access the bus, the operator will not leave them at the school or bus stop. The operator would be entitled to take the names and addresses of the student/s that are unable to pay for the fare or prduce a pre-paid ticket, and seek reimbursement of that fare at a later time. Consistent failure to pay the fare or produce a pre-paid ticket may result in the operator taking action in accordance with its code of conduct.
Any further questions or complaints will need to be directed to the Passenger Transport Branch, Department of State Growth. You can contact them on:

All you could possibly need to know about tomorrow's Athletics Carnival...
Our Athletics Carnival will be held tomorrow (Friday, 1st March) down on the school oval.
The athletics will kick off at 9:30am and we hope to have it wrapped up by 2:30pm.
Parents:
We welcome parents to attend the athletics carnival and support their children in the events. Parents are invited to set up chairs, cars, etc. around the outside of the oval only. Parents are not permitted to sit in the house tents with students and students are not permitted to go and sit with parents. Please do not cross the tracks set up on the oval to ensure the safety of everyone.
There will be a coffee van at school during the day, parents are welcome to purchase coffees from the van for $5 each. The van will also sell bottled water and cans of fizzy for parents. Students are not to purchase from the van.
Buses:
If you attend the athletics carnival and decide to take your child/ren with you at the end of the day you must sign them out at the office at the end of the day if the carnival finishes early or let the bus teacher know if the carnival finishes at the end of the day.
Students:
Students will be sitting with their own team. Coolongatta - Blue, Illawarra - Red and Imbru - Yellow. If children could please wear a top or coloured ribbon of their team, this would assist with marshalling, other children identifying their own team members and making the recording results much easier.
Please ensure that all students have a hat, sunscreen and enough food and water for the day.
Students who have ordered their lunch will have it delivered to their house tent at the beginning of lunchtime. Any parents who ordered their lunch can collect it from the gazebo.
Kindergarten students are welcome to attend and participate in some events between 9:30am - 12:30pm on the day. Due to the day not being a scheduled Kindergarten day, parents must stay and supervise their child.
The House Leaders, SRC Executives and Library Monitors attended the GRIP Student Leadership Conference on Wednesday, 20th February. We developed our understanding of the 4 CORE Character Traits of a leader: Confidence with Humility, Others Focused, Reliability and Empathy.
We learnt skills to improve our leadership and set goals we would like to achieve for our school. We had a great time working together and learning about being a leader. We met some amazing students from other schools and we look forward to putting our new skills into action this year.

On Monday, 18th February, the Geckos and Cockatoos started PCYC at the Burnie Aquatic Centre. We learnt the four qualities of PCYC which are: Communication, Cooperation, Teamwork and Leadership. We all represented the school and ourselves well by trying our best in all activities. We had had fun and learnt so much from the instructor Geoff about what it takes to make good leaders. All of us can't wait to go back next week!
