Welcome back everyone to the 2019 school year! The start of a new school year brings with it many things to look forward to and a genuine excitement of what the year will bring. A special welcome to students that have joined us for the first time, we look forward to making you feel welcome and fostering your learning. We have had a wonderful first week of school, with staff eager to support their new classes and work collaboratively with parents to enhance the development of every student at our school.
We are fortunate to have Mrs Niamh Baly return to teach at Boat Harbour Primary School with both 3-4 Kookaburras and 3-4 Bandicoots and experienced teacher Mrs Michelle Coward join us on Prep Echidnas. Congratulations to Miss Jess Smith who joins us again this year as Mrs Morgan after getting married in the holidays. Congratulations Mrs Morgan! We have a new Canteen Supervisor ready for when our Canteen renovations are complete, please welcome Mrs Susan Bowers.
With only small staffing changes the start to the year has been very settled. I encourage you to contact me, senior staff or your child’s teacher if you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s teacher at any time. Please always feel welcome to make a phone call to us, drop in and see us or arrange an appointment whenever you feel the need, we look forward to working with you throughout the year.
The Boat Harbour Primary School Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday, 1st March. If the weather is poor, the backup date is Friday, 8th March. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together and encourage participation and for kids to try their best, while celebrating achievement in the sporting arena. We hope you can join us, students simply love having parents and friends attend to support them.
Schoolzine is the new platform for us to communicate with parents via newsletters, notes and push notifications. This will allow us to be efficient with information that we can send directly to you, celebrate student learning and make sure that information gets to you conveniently. If you require support in accessing Schoolzine please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Some of our building upgrades have recently been completed. The new Prep classrooms look and feel fantastic! These students are extremely lucky to have these warm, vibrant and inviting learning spaces. The new performing arts area is nearly complete, as is the administration area. The school canteen is also being revitalised, however this will not be completed for some time.
The Boat Harbour Primary School Association AGM will be held on Wednesday, March 13th. Nominations are being called for members of the Association. These members will represent the school community and will be a voice for the broader school community. Nomination forms are available from the school office. Members oversee the administrative responsibilities, including policies that effect the school. All parents are welcome to meetings to hear about these functions, with meetings being held monthly at school.
Our School Association are again offering our school breakfast program on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you can help in any way please give your name to the front office and we will place you on the roster. Many thanks to Cripps for donating bread for toast and to the Wynyard IGA for supplying butter and spreads – we thank you both for your support and generosity!

School Drop Off - Pick Up - Buses
MORNING DROP OFF: A friendly reminder that due to duty of care students cannot be dropped off at school before 8:30am each morning.
Our school will remain locked until 8:30am daily.
AFTERNOON PICK UP: If your child is on a bus list you must tell the bus teacher before collecting your child or send a note along with your child.
Bus teachers ensure each person on their list is accounted for before sending their line to the bus and when they cannot locate a child due to them being collected it then delays the bus.
BUS LISTS: Our bus lists are put together each Monday morning for the following week therefore, we ask that you please let office staff know Monday mornings your child's arrangements for the week. If there is an unexpected change please call the school office as soon as possible so that they can arrange the change. Alternatively, if you know of the change prior to your child leaving home, write them a note.
Any questions regarding any of the above please get in touch.
North Melbourne Football Club Visit
We were lucky enough to have a visit from four North Melbourne Football Club players today.
Paul Athern #15, Tom Campbell #42, Tom Mckenzie #39 and Ed Vickers-Willis #33 all came along to visit us and talk about their football careers. They visited each of our Prep - Grade 6 classrooms and answered all of our questions.
Some of our questions included: "How many AFL games have you played during your career?", "What is your favourite team to play against?" and even "What does your house look like?"
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit from the Kangaroos players and would like to thank them very much for visiting.
As Mr Brown, Mr Groenewege, Mrs Kalweit and Mrs Donaghue would say "GO ROOS!"
Our canteen is still undergoing renovations but the planning for our new canteen space has already began.
Firstly, we would like to introduce Mrs Susan Bowers or new Canteen Supervisor. Mrs Bowers began with us at the beginning of term and is busily planning a new menu ready for when the renovations finish.
Each Friday beginning next Friday 22nd February, Mrs Bowers will be running a "Friday Special". Students can order one of two ways on the day:
- ENVELOPE ORDER
- Name and class
- How many/what they would like to order
- Money enclosed
Keep an eye out on our Facebook page, the Qkr app and the newsletter for each weeks special.
Our first special will be Chocolate Muffins, 50 cents per muffin.
We thank you for your patience with our undergoing renovations.

The Athletics Carnival will take place, weather permitting on Friday 1st March. Children will need to have appropriate clothing for hot and cold weather including a sun hat and plenty of water to drink. Parents and friends are welcome to come and join us and help cheer house teams in some friendly competition, starting at 9:30am on the school grounds.
Students will be sitting with their own team. Coolongatta - Blue, Illawarra - Red and Imbru - Yellow. If children could please wear a top or coloured ribbon of their team, this would assist with marshalling, other children identifying their own team members and making the recording results much easier.
As this is not a school day for kinder students, parents are most welcome to bring their child to join in some events for Kinder, but will need to stay and supervise their own child.

Physical Education this year will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. To enable the children to fully participate in the wide range of activities, it would be highly beneficial for them to have shoes that enable them to run safely and either shorts or tracksuit trousers to allow ease and comfort of movement. In addition, if your child is unable to participate at any stage, could they bring a brief note reflecting this.
Mrs Evans has done the rounds in the op shops and cannot find any therefore she is on the hunt for any old disused children's gumboots to use at the Athletics Carnival. If you have any that you are willing to donate please drop them into the school office.

Breakfast Club will run every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning. Students are welcome to go over to Minimbah and get free toast for brekkie.
Commencing this Monday 18th February, students from 5-6 Cockatoos and 4-5 Geckos will visit the PCYC in Burnie.
Sessions at PCYC require students to navigate through a series of obstacles. These obstacles are aimed at developing leadership skills through the use of effective communication and teamwork.
Students will travel by bus, leaving at 11:00am each Monday for several weeks. Parents are more than welcome to attend any of the sessions.
Miss Turner and Mr Groenewege
Class Teachers
Tomorrow, Friday, 15th February the 5-6 Numbats will be selling Zooper Doopers and icy poles. They will be $1 each and will be sold during lunchtime, out of the front of Minimbah.
All money raised will go towards the cost of Grade 6 leavers t-shirts.
School banking has resumed for 2019. Students are asked to bring their bank books to school and give them to their teacher every Tuesday morning. Bank books will then be returned to students on Wednesdays.
If you have any queries regarding the school banking please contact Teresa Regan on 0459 436 894.
Further information can also be found below.
Thank you.
